Dyer with some good looks. Looks like he's put on a couple LB but certainly has some work to fill out his frame.

Yaya Anderson PALMYRA — The Fluvanna County boys basketball team carried its hot start to the season into the new year with a 67-47 win over Western Albemarle on Tuesday night in its Jefferson District opener. The Warriors were coming off an impressive 53-39 win over Charlottesville last week but could not keep the momentum going on the road. “I thought we played really well,” Fluvanna coach Munro Rateau said. “I think we are getting better as the year goes on and I though we shot the ball pretty good tonight, so I was really pleased with it.” Fluvanna jumped out to an early 13-4 lead behind two 3-pointers from YaYa Anderson and eventually led 17-12 after the first quarter. The Warriors struggled on offense in the second quarter as the Flucos took a 31-17 advantage into the halftime break. The third quarter wouldn’t start off as planned for Darren Maynard’s team either as Fluvanna reeled off the first 10 points of the quarter to take the 41-19 lead. Western Albemarle responded and used an 8-0 run of its own to climb back to within 14 points at 41-27 but would not get any closer for the remainder of the game. “We wanted to get out and run to negate their size and we did a good job of that,” Rateau added. Anderson led the way for Fluvanna as he scored a team-high 20 points and was three assists shy of a triple-double as he added 10 rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Vincent Agee added 13 points and senior Taylor Lintecum scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds. The Warriors were led by sophomore Parker Morris, who scored 20 points on the night and hit four 3-pointers. Western Albemarle travels to Charlottesville to take on the Black Knights on Thursday night. Fluvanna will also be back in action on Thursday night when it hosts Monticello. “They are all big games from now on,” Rateau said. “If we want to try to get back to the region [tournament] we have to win every game from here out.” www2.dailyprogress.com/sports/2012/jan/03/fluvanna-boys-roll-past-western-ar-1585279/

Anderson scores 35 as Flucos roll PALMYRA — The last time the Fluvanna County boys basketball team lost a Jefferson District game was a little more than a year ago, when the Flucos lost to Monticello, 71-67, on Jan. 4, 2011. The Mustangs came into Thursday’s game in the Shoe Box looking for a repeat performance of last January’s tilt. There would be no Mustang victory this time, however, as Fluvanna cruised to an 83-55 win. After a tightly contested first quarter, a change on the defensive end by the Flucos and a big night from YaYa Anderson powered Fluvanna to a dominating performance over the final three stanzas. Fluvanna switched out of its man-to-man defense and turned to a zone after the first quarter, daring the Mustangs to shoot from the outside. Not only was Monticello cold from the perimeter, turnovers led to easy baskets for Fluvanna as the Flucos outscored the Mustangs 22-13 in the second quarter to take the 38-28 lead into halftime behind 20 first-half points from Anderson. “That is probably our best defense [the 1-3-1],” Fluvanna coach Munro Rateau said. “When we get in that zone we are so long and it also did a good job of slowing them down because we know they like to run.” The second half would be much the same as Fluvanna got easy baskets inside and stifled the Mustangs on the defensive end. Monticello shot 2 for 14 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 16 times in the loss. “I thought we played pretty well tonight,” Rateau said. “We did a great job adjusting to what they were doing.” Anderson scored a game-high 35 points, which included four 3-pointers. He also added five rebounds and five assists. Freshman Jalen Harrison added 10 points for Fluvanna. Monticello was led by James Banks, who scored 18 points. Jhalil Mosley added 15 points and four steals. Fluvanna takes on E.C. Glass on Saturday while Monticello will host Powhatan on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. www2.dailyprogress.com/sports/2012/jan/05/anderson-scores-35-flucos-roll-ar-1590749/

Fluvanna outlasts CHS behind 34 points from Anderson When Fluvanna County and Charlottesville meet on the hardwood, fans know they are in for a show. This was evident last season when the two teams played three times with two of the games being decided by five points or less. Things were no different Tuesday night as the Jefferson District foes battled for the first time in 2012 as Fluvanna left Charlottesville with the 61-48 victory, keeping the Flucos perfect in district play. “Obviously this is a great team win for us,” Fluvanna coach Munro Rateau said. “We knew it was going to be a tough game, they came out and gave us their best shot and we recovered.” The Black Knights came out swinging in the first quarter, grabbing an early 16-7 lead while holding Fluvanna guard YaYa Anderson scoreless through the first eight minutes. The momentum swayed toward the Flucos in the second quarter as they outscored the Black Knights 16-8 in the stanza. The first half ended with an Anderson 3-pointer to give him nine points after two quarters and pulled Fluvanna to within one at 24-23. “That shot gave me a lot of momentum,” Anderson said. “We went in with a lot of momentum and I was fired up and I had to get on my teammates and tell them to step it up.” Both teams continued to battle in the third quarter and entered the final period tied at 35-35. Then Anderson stole the show in the fourth quarter. Behind Anderson, Fluvanna (12-1) outscored Charlottesville (6-4) 26-13 in the final period en route to the 13-point win. Twenty of Fluvanna’s 26 fourth-quarter points came from Anderson, who finished with 34 points. “He [YaYa] missed a couple shots early and the other kids know that if YaYa isn’t scoring that doesn’t mean that they can’t score,” Rateau said. “YaYa played a great game but the other guys did a great job of getting us this win also.” Freshman Vinny Agee chipped in with nine points and five rebounds for the Flucos, who were outrebounded by the Black Knights 33-19 in the win. Charlottesville was led by senior Daquan Jones, who scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Fellow senior Taquan Wicks added 10 points and six rebounds. Fluvanna will try to keep its perfect district record alive when it travels to Powhatan on Thursday night. Charlottesville hosts Louisa County on Thursday night. “I’ve said that if we want to win the district we have to win all of our games at home and some on the road,” Rateau said. “This is one that is not easy to win in this gym and we have another road game on Thursday so if we can get through that we will be right where we want to be.” www2.dailyprogress.com/sports/2012/jan/10/fluvanna-outlast-chs-behind-34-points-anderson-ar-1602351/
