andrew white is on the front page of espn's bball recruiting page espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/hes mentioned in this article sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=5696376Originally Published: October 17, 2010 Josh Newkirk shines at NC Phenom 150By Dave Telep ESPN Recruiting This wasn't Andrew White's first time at the NC Phenom 150 Camp, but it was his best work. Following a spring and summer that didn't meet his own standards or those of the guys with the tight grips on the scholarships, White went back to basics.
The 6-foot-5 small forward re-classed and enrolled at Charlottesville (Va.) Miller School, a place where discipline -- both the school's and his own -- converged with expectations.
"For me it was about the weight room and ball handling and the only time I can work is 5:45 a.m.," White said. On Saturday, White played with intensity and passion. Don't be surprised if the same high-level schools that passed swing back his way. He owns 13 mid-major offers as a 2012 prospect but the one he covets is Georgetown.
"If I reclassified and don't have a high-major option then it was a wasted year," he said.
With a stronger body, sound jump shot and new direction, what previously was not possible may be there for the taking. Saturday was the first step, now for White it's about continuing the progress.Standout Performers Josh Newkirk, PG, 2013 Recently re-classified, it was at this event last year that Newkirk made his initial impression. He dropped the hammer in his second game, proving to be too difficult to guard going to the rim. He easily slides into the lane and transitions from finisher to creator seamlessly. Next up is steadying the jump shot, but he's one of the top young point guards in North Carolina. Brian White, PF, 2013 He's 6-6 and there's growth to be done, but thus far White's showing potential and production. He owns a live, pogo stick body and is a weight program away from being a real force. A hustling, competitive kid, he sports the look of a kid about to come into his own. Nigel Holley, PF/C, 2013 A monster JV year earned him and end-of-season call up last year. This season Holley will prove to be a force at New Hanover, outside Wilmington, N.C. He's 6-7 (for now) and has legit post moves, he rebounds and outlets the ball and a strong sophomore season is on the horizon. Surprise Player Christian Hairston, F, 2013 This one may surprise people from his area since he was a JV player last year at Greensboro Day. Hairston is 6-6 and his game and body are growing but neither met up with the other. The point is, he's improved since we saw him last month and he's hitting markers. Now he's got to go out and prove it in high school. Pinging The Radar • 2014 point guard Eric Johnson has the attributes to be a national-level recruit in his class. Classmate Phillip Hayes is a thick-bodied post player and if he grows from 6-5 has a bright future. • Matthew Madigan (2013), Andrew Rowsey (2013) and Carlos Rankins (2012) each displayed a nice stroke. However, 2012 Terry Henderson owned the purest of them all. He conjures up visions of soon-to-be Florida State signee Terry Whisnant. • 2012 power forward Shane Whitfield earned respect with his blue-collar inside approach. Though undersized, he's strong and knows his calling card is finishing. SoCon-level schools will love him. • Senior Dominique Byrd, an undersized 4-man, dunked more than anyone we saw. Lower-level schools who can deal with him being undersized will get athleticism and a presence at the rim. Notes • The most significant performer to go M.I.A. was junior PG Tyler Lewis. A foot injury relegated him to dragging a cumbersome boot around the gym. He's two weeks away from returning to the court. • T.J. Warren took in Duke's opening tip-off Friday night and was one of the top prospects here. Tennessee, Miami, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, South Carolina and Clemson have offered. Arizona State, Xavier and Indiana are looking. Warren's father played for the N.C. State from 1974-76. • Richmond and William & Mary offered Terry Henderson because his style is up their alley. Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and St. Joe's are looking.

Note Roanoke Times' reporter Doug Doughty's column on Oak Hill's scrimmage being "a must see event": www.roanoke.com/sports/notebookplus/wb/264781Doughty mentions Coach [Brad] Greenberg in attendance, along with his brother Seth, and of course Steve Robinson from North Carolina. Doughty also mentions several of Oak Hill's players and how they performed during the scrimmage. To me, the fact that Keith Hornsby was not mentioned anywhere is a curious thing. Does that mean that the underclassmen that have arrived on Oak Hill's campus will garner more playing time and notoriety than Hornsby? Because Hornsby was a 6th or 7th man last year, I suspected he'd be more of a premiere player this year. I guess committing to UNC Asheville last year was a good idea if he slips to a 9th or 10th player in the rotation this year, but it's hard to tell if that will be the case based on Doughty's column.

Went onto Virginia Preps this morning and Andrew White is on the front page, talking about his visit to Virginia Tech. I'm not a VIP member so I couldn't read the article, but apparently VT can be added to the list of interested schools virginiapreps.rivals.com/

Yeah, the way oak hill reloads every year with top tier talent probably puts Hornsby in that 6th and 7th man role again. I know thier starting pg quinn cook is duke bound.
With vt on board recruiting Andrew white, that seems to push our chances to the slim to none category IMO

andrew white visited VT last month, which barring a miracle officially ends our chances IMO virginiapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1143438October 24, 2010 High flying, fast rising White talks about VT visitZirkle Blakey III VirginiaPreps.com Editor Fast rising, high flying Andrew White made an unofficial visit this weekend to Virginia Tech. VirginiaPreps.com was able to catch up with White to get some comments on the visit. White told us "At Virginia Tech, I felt welcome. Everybody spoke and gave good feed back. The football fans seemed to be very loyal people and supporting to all athletics. Facilities were amazing. Campus was the best I've seen. The coaching staff welcomed me every minute I was there" White, #5, is elevating his game! Which schools are showing the most interest in White? Well he currently holds offers from Delaware, UC-Irvine, Richmond, James Madison, Northeastern, VMI, UNC-Greensboro, Duquesne, Radford and several others. Other schools are starting to show interest, especially after White's performance at the Phenom Top 150 event last weekend. White said "My Coach has spoken to the entire ACC as a result of my showing at the camp." Other schools now showing increased interest include the Hokies along with Clemson, VCU, ODU and several others. White added that no timetable has been set for a commitment, stating "I'm just waiting for the right fit." When asked about his thoughts for the coming season at Miller, White told us "I have very high expectations for myself and my team this year. Individually I have done a lot differently to gain progress. I do 5:45am workouts three times a week to have a good amount of time to improve ball handling and shooting. Overall, my mentality and work ethic has increased significantly. I have put tremendous time into the weight room also. The team has worked hard and I want to be a state title contender." This will be White's first season at Miller, having played previously at Thomas Dale in Chester. When asked about the transfer White welcomed the opportunity to discuss the decision and clear up some misconceptions surrounding it. "The main reason I transferred was to improve my guard skills and get stronger. People think I was not getting recruited while at Thomas Dale, which was not true. Here at Miller I have an opportunity to be in a good basketball atmosphere and progress differently. Academically, my grades are very good. I get a lot of individual attention from my teachers and it makes a big difference." Miller has also reclassified to the Class of 2012, allowing him an additional year to work on his basketball 'game' and his academics. White added "Right now, my decision is paying off. I am obviously a lot stronger and faster. My work ethic on my weaknesses has taken me far already. I think Coach Eddie Goss, Coach Walker and Coach Davies (all from Thomas Dale) taught me a lot and did a good job. I came a long way in public school and credit them a lot for my success" What others are saying A scout that attended the Phenom Top 150 provided VirginiaPreps.com this assessment of White's performance "He played real well, was one of top 5 there at camp, started to attack basket more, put it on deck more and ball handling is improving... that can benefit him. He's been considered a mid-major mostly, but if he continues on that pace he can maybe breakthrough as high-major player." Rick Lewis wrote on GreensboroSports.com "The "new and improved" Andrew White introduced himself with several strong drives to the basket and making those thunderous "wow factor" dunks. His play this weekend along with his new mindset of playing extremely hard on both ends of the court should elevate him into a national top 75 ranking in the 2012 class. Once high majors check him out, they will all agree he is a high major prospect." ______________________________________ another andrew white blurb virginiapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1151204Andrew White, 6-foot-6, G-F, Miller School (2012)-White soared above the competition with a variety of aerial highlights. PGs repeatedly found him flying behind the defense for multiple ally-oop dunks. White displayed the fruits of his decision to go to Miller School, with enhanced muscle mass, increased athleticism and newfound commitment to defense. White has added increased accuracy on an already deadly mid-range jumper, repeatedly knocking down shots over 6-foot-5+ defenders. White has improved his ability to create off the dribble making him truly a match-up nightmare. White has several mid-major offers on the table but this re-classified junior looks to be a high-major prospect and beyond.

Andrew White is now ranked as the #71st best prospect in the country. He is ranked as a four star. So I'm guessing that we'll be out of the race for him, unfortunately.

MJ-based on Coach Jones' recent recruiting success (see last 10-15 posts on this site) any recruit is in our reach. Wow, I wonder what kind of recruits Coach Jones will bring in with a full staff and a whole year to recruit!

The reason why White reclassified from 2011 to 2012 is because he wanted to goto a high major school, but it would be awesome if he changed his mind haha. But im pretty sure hes headed that way.

White may be gone but I believe VCU has been after Eddie....maybe that will help us. Based on the fact that Jones has been able to go get legit D-1 recruits in a matter of a couple of weeks makes me very optimistic for what he has in store for the 2012 class.
