another offer @scoutsfocus Joe Davis 2012 Davidson Day (NC) PG Rashun Davis received an offer from Radford today. twitter.com/#!/scoutsfocus/status/91622810832740352 apparently this kid is on campus this weekend. looks like he would be a stud in coach jones' system. blip.tv/ballislife/2010-prep-all-stars-holiday-classic-recap-chris-jones-jacob-lawson-rodney-purvis-more-4586338 - his part starts around 1:25 mark i think we have 1 scholly left. i assume this visit was setup before the yaya commitment, but i think id feel more comfortable if we grabbed a SF with the final scholly. i feel like noreen is the only true 3 on the roster. would be nice if lukas could play out there. 13 scholly limit 6 freshmen (price, darden, holcomb, green, noreen, carethers)+5 returning (tolga, lukas, edwards, blake, jareal) = 11 schollies + dyer & yaya - edwards graduating = 1 remaining

I don't dislike the idea of having Blake play the 3 for the rest of his career. He's only an inch or two short of what a true 3 would be, and with his reach, defensive acumen, and ups, he could cause fits on both sides of the court for any Big South opposing 3 man. When he needs a breather, throw Noreen in there. Looks like we'll have no dearth of guys at the 1 and 2.

This is a very smart pick-up! From what I've read he sounds like a gritty little forward who isn't afriad to fight against more muscular guys for rebounds and position on the glass.

I agree, he could create mismatches with his ability to play the wing and inside.

new rivals article on yaya
Matthew Hatfield VirginiaPreps.com
Fluvanna County (Palmyra, VA) 6-foot-2 combo guard YaYa Anderson from the Class of 2012 has given a verbal commitment to play his College Basketball for new Coach Mike Jones and the Radford Highlanders from the Big South.
Liberty, College of Charleston, Mount St. Mary's, Duquesne, UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Wilmington were among some of the other schools that Anderson considered. His final three were Radford, Liberty and College of Charleston. The chance to make an immediate impact with the Highlanders and not be too far from his hometown was too much to pass up.
"As soon as I saw it, I fell in love with it and it was like everything I wanted in a school. The program is great, Coach Jones and everyone on the staff really made me feel at home. I see Radford as a great fit because the way they play really fits my style," Anderson told VirginiaPreps.com.
"They like my ability to score, mental toughness and toughness alone. I don't crack under pressure and I'm not afraid to take and make the big shot. I also get my teammates involved, and I think I can be one of the hardest workers."
Anderson scored 47 points in the Group AA State Tournament quarterfinals. That broke a record that stood for 34 years, helping the Flucos reach the State Final Four for the first time since 1992. Fluvanna, which fell to Waynesboro in the Group AA Division 3 State Semis, finished with a record of 24-3 overall.
During his junior season, Anderson was named the Jefferson District, Region II Division 3 and VHSCA co-State Player of the Year. He's already scored over 1000 points in his career in less than three full seasons of varsity basketball.
Radford, which from an NCAA Tournament participant to 5-24 overall in a span of two seasons, has now snagged a pair of homegrown Virginia products in their 2012 recruiting class with Anderson and Lucas Dyer, a 6-foot-7 forward from Deep Run High School in Glen Allen. Provided he does what's expected, an early contribution by Anderson is very possible when arrives to college.
"I'm going to play the 1 (point guard) and the 2 (shooting guard), and how early I play is up to the coaches, but ultimately it's going to be a matter how much effort and work I'm willing to put in," Anderson admitted. "If I do what I know I can do, I wouldn't see coming in and playing right away as a problem, but that depends on how hard I work."
On the AAU scene this past off-season, Anderson continued to impress, playing at a high level for East Coast Fusion. A total of 15-20 Division I College Basketball programs ended up offering him before he decided to end the recruiting process as he now gears up for his senior season at Fluvanna with the team goal of taking care of unfinished business in March while continuing to improve his own individual game.
"I plan on working on my defense and learn that defense is as just as important as offense. I just hope to get better each year and not only that, but to mentor the younger players on my squad," Anderson said. "Ultimately, it's that State Championship we want. You can't get there without taking each week a game at a time, so that's what I plan on doing."

dyer article
Matthew Hatfield VirginiaPreps.com Basketball Analyst
Deep Run (Glen Allen, VA) 6-foot-7 forward Lucas Dyer wasn't a household name in the Central Region last season and would fit the description of a late bloomer. He started to gain steam towards the end of his junior season, and carried that over into the off-season on the AAU circuit playing for Team Loaded. Colleges began to notice him and see plenty of promise and potential, which led to Division I programs getting involved on the recruiting front.
On Sunday, Dyer became the first Class of 2012 basketball prospect from the Colonial District to give a verbal commitment. Following his upcoming senior season with the Wildcats, Dyer will play his College Hoops for Coach Mike Jones and the Radford Highlanders of the Big South Conference.
"I selected Radford because it's a great school and I can easily see myself there in a year. I also like the basketball side and I'm excited to work with Coach Jones and his assistants," Dyer told VirginiaPreps.com.
Dyer also held an offer from UNC Greensboro and was receiving interest from such schools as James Madison, Appalachian State, College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Army and Fairfield. He's a skilled forward, solid passer and can occasionally stretch the defense now that he's starting to develop both consistency and touch on his jumper.
Lean and long with a wingspan that enables him to rebound and block shots, Dyer averaged roughly eight points and eight rebounds per game last season as a junior for Deep Run. His best game of the season came at the end of the year in postseason play. In the opening round of the Central Region Tournament against Central Region Champion and eventual Group AAA State Runner-Up L.C. Bird, Dyer scored 21 points in a losing effort.
"I hope to bring energy to the program and everything I can offer," noted Dyer. "I think Radford liked my size, my presence on defense and my ability to shoot the mid-range jumper. I can see myself at the forward spot at Radford, playing both inside and outside."
Jones, who replaces Brad Greenberg, comes to Radford after previously serving as an assistant coach at VCU. He inherits a team that finished 5-24 overall and 2-16 in conference play a season ago. Prior to that though, the Highlanders did enjoy back-to-back winning seasons, reaching the NCAA Tournament in March of 2009.
Although Deep Run has to replace its leading scorer in swingman Evan Jackson (Randolph-Macon) from last year's team, expectations in year two under Coach Curt Kassab should be even higher. A total of 11 players are back for Deep Run, and another trip to the Central Region playoffs seems imminent.
"I am very excited for my senior year at Deep Run," said Dyer. "We have been working to build our program and I think this year will be one to remember."

So I was in Virginia for work the past couple of days and actually met someone who knows Yaya and someone who was at the game where he scored just under 50 points in the quarterfinals and they were both impressed with him as a person and a player. Can't wait to see him in an RU uniform!
