November, 2009: This point guard from Savannah is a true floor general who has complete command of the game. He runs the show from every aspect both playing and thinking the game. He never seems to get sped up on the floor, and is a true extension of the coach on the floor. This is truly impressive considering he played shooting guard for the past three years in high school. Because of the position change he shows excellent range on his jump shot out to 23' and shoots the ball with good consistency. He is a good athlete who is able to get in the lane and finish at the rim. He has great size for a PG which allows him to see the floor with great vision. Any questions about his toughness can be answered by knowing he is the starting quarterback for the football team.
can you say stud

www.ruhighlanders.com/news/2009/11/16/MBB_1116093416.aspx?path=mbballRADFORD, Va. – Third-year head coach Brad Greenberg announced Monday that Jareal Smith (Savannah, Ga. / Johnson High School) has also inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Radford men’s basketball in 2010-11. “Jareal was the only guard we offered and we are very excited about this commitment,” said Greenberg, the 2009 Big South Coach of the Year. Jareal Smith 6-3, 190, G Savannah, Ga. / Johnson High School Named the Region 3-AAAAA Player of the Year by league head coaches following junior campaign… Led Johnson High to the Class AAAAA State Tournament in 2009… Member of the AAU squad Team Truth coached by Curtis Wheeler… Earned second-team all-league honors as a sophomore… Along with being the starting quarterback and kicker/punter, runs cross country and plays baseball for Johnson High School. Greenberg on Smith as a Player “"Rell" is a smooth, poised ballhandler with a very nice feel for the game. He is a natural point guard who thinks pass first but can also score the ball in a variety of ways. He is athletic, strong, and fundamentally solid at both ends of the floor. And we believe he has the potential to become an outstanding college guard. His game compliments our other young guards very well.” Masse Doumbe (Le Mans, France / Polk State College) also signed during the early period with the Highlanders late last week. Coming off a 76-65 season-opening win over Navy, Radford returns to the Dedmon Center Tuesday evening when it hosts Lynchburg College at 7 p.m.

www.wtoctv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11516289Johnson Guard Jareal Smith headed to Radford UniversityBy DaShawn Brown - email SAVANNAH, Ga (WTOC) – Surrounded by a room full of family, teammates and classmates, Johnson Guard Jareal Smith made it official: He’s headed to Radford University. Averaging 17 points per game, Smith has earned the respect of his teammates, as well as first year head coach Mart Holder, both on and off the court. “He's more on the kids in the classroom than I am and he forces them to do the right thing because they know if they're doing the right thing that can help us all out,” Holder said. Smith added having the support of his peers made the day worthwhile. “It felt good,” he said. “It put a big smile on my face. Our coach, Coach Marty Holder, he put everything together, brought everybody out, and I loved it.” ©2009 WTOC. All rights reserved.
