So Jareal Smith played AAU w/ Santoine Butler, who according to rivals says we are also showing interest towards. www.d1spects.com/basketball/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=910:front-page-rotator&id=509:justin-youngTEAM TRUTH ENJOYING HOME COURT ADVANTAGE Santoine Butler woke up in his own bed on Saturday morning and made a short drive over the gorgeous University of South Carolina-Aiken Convocation Center. Shortly thereafter, the long-armed post player from Cross Creek High School stepped on the court and played one of his best games of the early summer so far. Clearly sleeping in familiar surroundings pays off as he and his Team Truth made it look easy against the Triangle Thunder. Butler, a rising senior, scored 13 points and pulled down an equal amount of rebounds. Laney guard Rod Hall, a rising junior, scored a team high 15 points while Effingham County Chase Arrington went for 12 points, including a trio of triples. Savannah Johnson wing Jareal Smith pumped in nine points.Butler said he is hearing from High Point, Middle Tennessee State and George Mason. Smith said he has three offers: Georgia State, Nebraska and Auburn.

Brandon Britt to William & Mary
3-Point Ace Britt Joins Tribe by Dave Telep of Scout.com, October 21, 2009 at 11:32am ET
Brandon Britt Profile
When you attend a lot of games, rarely does something happen where it sticks in your mind and you can't shake it. During a game last season, Atlantic Shores Christian point guard Brandon Britt happened to drop ten 3-pointers!
Next season, he'll have the green light in the CAA for the William & Mary Tribe.
"He's a coach's delight," Ty White of Petersburg Elite said. "He's a great kid, cat-quick and tough." ___________________________________________

www.d1spects.com/basketball/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=609:justin-young&catid=910:front-page-rotator From Atom Smasher to HighlanderWritten by Justin Young Wednesday, 21 October 2009 09:12 After a weekend trip to a Big South school, Savannah Johnson guard Jareal Smith decided he was ready to put an end to his recruitment. Smith committed to Radford over the weekend. “The opportunity that I have to come in and play as a freshman is something that I wanted to take advantage of it,” Smith said. The Highlanders presented playing time, Smith said, and at the end of the day that was too hard to turn down. “(Head coach Brad Greenberg) told me that they are losing their senior point guard after this year and that they need a point guard to do what (the outbound guard) can do for their team,” Smith said. “He told me he wanted me to lead them to championships.” Greenburg’s experience in the NBA as an assistant coach and front office executive was an attractive selling point for Smith, one of the top players in the Savannah region. “I think I can learn a lot from him. He’s been in the league. I feel like he can help me get to that level,” Smith said. “He’ll push me to become a better athlete and be able to perform every night at the best of my abilities.” Smith said he also considered Gardner-Webb and Georgia State. His trip to Radford was his only official visit.

www.roanoke.com/sports/college/wb/223365Highlanders score Radford has taken an oral commitment from Jareal Smith, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound combination guard from Savannah, Ga., who is described by AAU coach Curtis Wheeler as a potential Big South Conference rookie of the year. Wheeler coaches Team Truth, a travel team based in North Augusta, Ga., whose annual schedule is close to 50-60 games. During the school year, Smith plays basketball at Johnson High School, where he also runs cross country and plays baseball. "If he only played basketball, he'd be a lot more polished at this point," Wheeler said, "but I think coach [Brad] Greenberg will take care of that. He's [Smith] an excellent shooter -- 3-point shooter, free-throw shooter, mid-range shooter -- who can play both guard spots. He's a pretty good passer, which shows he's got high basketball IQ."

www.wkyt.com/wymtsports/headlines/65589287.htmlElisha Justice commits to Louisville Shelby Valley’s Elisha Justice has told the University of Louisville head coach Rick Pitino today that he is committing to him to be a Louisville Cardinal. Elisha’s decision is based upon a number of things. One major thing was the history that Coach Pitino has with developing preferred walk-ons. A few to name is Will Scott, Cameron Mills, Anthony Epps, Chris Smith (brother of NBA player J.R. Smith), and Alhaji Mohammad (who is currently playing professional overseas). He has developed many of his walk-ons into great players and some have later earned full scholarships. They have also played significant roles in Final Four and national championship runs. Click here to find out more! Elisha is thinking about going into college coaching and this was also a major factor in his decision. This would allow him to play under a Hall of Fame coach that has a history of developing great coaches as well. He looks forward to playing for Coach Pitino and the University of Louisville.

word, hopefully they will be 6'10 and up.
it looks like Jareal is a freak of an athlete, bball, football, baseball, and cross country??? impressive. Once he dedicates himself to bball, he can only improve. apparently hes already a heck of a shooter/scorer....Im curious how is passing, handles, and quickness are.

masse is getting ready to start his season. they have him listed as a guard this year. the coach has some nice words about masse in the article. i hope he has a great year! www.newschief.com/article/20091101/NEWS/911015064/1019?Title=Young-Vikings-ready-to-defendYoung Vikings ready to defendBy Chad Bullock News Chief staff Published: Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 4:01 a.m. Last Modified: Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 2:08 a.m. WINTER HAVEN - When Polk State College's men's basketball team takes the court for its first game Monday, the Vikings will do it with almost an entirely new team. PSC returns two players who combined to average 18.4 points per game, and one of those players, Tyron Johnson, will be out until at least December. That leaves Masse Doumbe to stabilize the Vikings on the court.
Doumbe averaged 9.4 points and six rebounds per game for last season's Suncoast Conference champions.
"He's such a mature player," PSC coach Matt Furjanic said. "He can score outside and inside and he has such a great work ethic. He and Tyron do such a great job of leading by example."Perhaps the biggest hole the Vikings will have to fill is that of point guard Lance Jeter. Jeter, along with Quincy Hankins, transferred to Nebraska after last season. Jeter averaged just less than 16 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season. PSC also lost last year's leading scorer, Deontay Twyman (17 points per game). One player that could help fill the shoes of Jeter will be a local product. Ridge Community High School grad Michael Gordy has a shot at opening the season as the Vikings' starting point guard. "He has the perfect body to be a point guard at the college level," Furjanic said. "He's not a great shooter, and he's too small to be a (small forward). He's a strong, physical type of guard and he does a great job keeping his body low to the ground." One thing Furjanic said has helped Gordy the most was practicing with and against Jeter last season. "Last year in practices, he had to play against Lance Jeter," Furjanic said. "So he got some experience at point guard and we told him that could be a position he could contribute in." Gordy used a redshirt last season, so he will enter this year as a freshman. Another player Furjanic could have a big impact is Malik Tinsley, who transferred from Odessa College. Tinsley will fill the role that Johnson was going to fill until he returns. PSC will play Daytona Staet College Monday at 7 p.m. The school will have free pizza and giveaways starting at 6:30 p.m. chad.bullock@newschief.com This story appeared in print on page B1 All rights reserved. i hope we are still going hard after Davante Gardner, everything I read about him and his skills are positive. his only negative was his weight/endurance, but I've read a few things saying hes already dropping the pounds. check this from april.... Davante Gardner had a smashing debut during an AAU tournament game in Pittsburgh as he brought the house (and backboard) down on a fast break dunk. petersburg Elite coach Clint Wright said Gardner's throwdown sent a buzz around the "We had just saw Dujuan Blair (University of Pittsburgh center) before the game," Petersburg Elite coach Clint Wright said. "We were up by 18 points and Davante had the ball on a fast break. He went up for the dunk and the glass shattered." Gardner won a state championship while anchoring the middle of the paint for Kings Fork. He averaged 16 points and 8.2 rebounds. Gardner is unique because he has a smooth jump shot and he has a mid-range game--something you don't see from 300 pound centers. "He can do it all," Wright said. "He's lost weight and he looks nimble. He's down to about 285-290. He had 18 first half points and he was unstoppable inside. I think you are going to see his game get better and better."
