Still think Roanoke Times could do a better job in giving us coverage (especially with the year we're supposed to have) ... but this is a decent little write up on Blake Smith.

I mean could it be any more bare bones of an article? Other than that I like seeing that we are pulling a kid that had a CAA offer...

espn recruiting updated their evaluations and grades of our recruits, they all sound great and thier grades range from 79-87. I added links to these on the 1st page, but ill go ahead and post them here also.
Here are what the grades mean...
87-89: Mid-major plus prospect Player could contribute for three or four years at a high-major program or have a significant impact as a freshman at a mid-major program.
83-86: Mid-major prospect Player should be a solid contributor and two- or three-year starter at a mid-major program.
77-79: Low-major plus prospect Player could contribute at a mid-major school but should be a significant contributor as a freshman at a low-major program.
Evan Faulkner- Grade 87
November, 2008: Evan Faulkner is a very smart, competitive, effort player, who always gives it his all on the court. He is highly skilled and can play both point and shooting guard. He has the ability to score effectively from all ranges. He has exceptional court vision, and is an excellent decision maker. With his ability to see the floor and find open teammates, he is an effective passer and playmaker. Defensively, he usually guards the top scorer on opposing teams. He works extremely hard at both ends of the court. He is an outstanding student, and averaged 16 points, and 7 assists as a junior. He has a twin brother, Ethan Faulkner, who is also a senior at Elliott County High School and will likely sign with a Division I program next April. Coach Brad Greenburg landed a quality future team leader for his Radford program.
Tommy Spagnolo- Grade 85
November, 2008: Tom Spagnolo is most definitely a "true sleeper" who was not on anyone's Class of 2009 evaluations list. He did not play for a major travel team and many missed out on him. Ashe County High School is located in a remote part of Western North Carolina. Nonetheless, he is a definite Division I level power forward who should become a very good player for Coach Brad Greenberg's Radford program. Spagnolo is a "blue collar", no nonsense physical player, with good post skills and is a strong rebounder. He has a accurate oustide touch with range to 17-feet and in. He is long and has very good athletic abilities for his size. Spagnolo is very mobile and has excellent footwork. He is "truly a hidden gem" that the HIghlanders spotted and quietly and quickly snared before he became better known to college coaches.
Michael Wooten- Grade 85
November, 2008: Michael Wooten was a totally unknown Class of 2009 player until Coach Brad Greenberg offered him a scholarship to Radford. Wooten has the talent and versatility to play either backcourt position. However, with his exceptional shooting skills, including a deadeye three-point touch, he will likely play at shooting guard for the Highlanders. Also, in this class Radford also has 6-2 Evan Faulkner, whom will likely play at the point guard position. Wooten is very quick and athletic, and has a quality skills set. He must get in the weight room and become stronger to play at the collegiate level. However, what attracted Radford is his textbook pure shooting abilities.
Blake Smith- Grade 79
November, 2008: Blake Smith is a tough, hard-nosed competitor, who plays with high energy and is extemely active at both ends of the court. On his team he is always the "glue-guy" with the vocal leadership, effort, and the skills level to make things happen. He has a knack for getting his hands on virtually every loose ball, and can become a shut down defensive player. Smith played at Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte as a junior, and is now at United Faith Christian Academy. He caught our eye with his athletic talents and tremendous leaping ability playing for the Charlotte Royals AAU team. He was one of the top scorers for that talented group, and is an accurate perimeter shooter with three-point range. Smith can score in a variety of ways, including his most effective medium range game. He is an excellent rebounder from the wing position. Smith was very impressive with his all-around play and total effort for the Royals at the Boo Williams Invitational Tournament in April, and the late July events in Orlando, Fla. He committed to Coach Brad Greenberg's Radford program over offers from American, Buffalo, UNC-Greensboro, Elon, and others.

cool article about how we got Michael Wooten www.roanoke.com/sports/college/wb/183196College Notebook: Old ties help RU snag hoops recruitBy Doug Doughty | The Roanoke Times Coaches have come and gone since Rod Cousin finished his Radford basketball career in 1988, but a strong bond remains, and that's a good thing for the Highlanders. Cousin coaches the Mid-City Magic AAU team, based in Graham, N.C., and is an assistant coach at his alma mater, Graham High School, whose Michael Wooten will sign with Radford next Wednesday on national letter-of-intent day. "He's a lights-out shooter," said Cousin of Wooten, a 6-foot-2 guard. "He has unlimited range and is a very good jumper; he's won dunk contests. Radford got itself a steal. He's big-time." Wooten is one of four players who have made oral commitments to the Highlanders for 2009-2010. Cousin, who played professionally in Europe for 15 years, called the Radford basketball office upon his return. "I didn't know any of the coaches," said Cousin, who had played for Joe Davis. "But they welcomed me in. I've been trying to get them to look at some of their players. They came down to see Michael this summer and I told them, 'If you let him stay on the market for long, it's going to be a tough battle.'" Cousin said Wooten had 10 scholarship offers.

hopefully we can still snag hagins (or daniels). but hagins would be a huge get. hagins would be great, i hope we are still in the mix, but dont hold your breath for daniels ha Daniels has top threeBrett Stein BearcatLair.com Recruiting Analyst Talk about it in The Armory For Roanoke (VA) William Fleming High School standout Troy Daniels things are about to get both very busy and very interesting. He starts basketball practice this coming week and is starting to receive increased interest from several high profile colleges. "Right now my top three are Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Marshall, in that order," said Daniels. Known primarily as a strong outside shooter, Daniels has been working hard in the weight room the past few months to increase his strength so he doesn't get knocked off the ball and so he can finish at the rim with contact. "I'm still trying to set up a visit to Cincinnati. It's just a matter of finding a weekend that works for my mother and me. My weekends are usually busy but we'll get up there." Daniels has already made an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech and saw the football team take on Maryland a few weeks ago. "Virginia Tech is close to home and their coaches talk to me a lot. I also know some of the players on the team and they have done a real good job of letting me know how I'd fit in there," said Daniels. A great of high school players use unofficial and official visits in deciding which school they will ultimately attend but Troy Daniels has opted to take a different approach. "I want to know what to expect and I am going to do my homework on the schools recruiting me because I want to stay at the school. I don't want to transfer." Other schools showing interest in Daniels include Marquette and Penn State although the possibility exists for Daniels to do a postgraduate year at Hargrave Military Academy. "The Cincinnati program stands out (as a big time program) because they are on ESPN all the time and growing up I wanted to play on national television. I like what I've heard from the coaches but I haven't met any of the players yet. They also offer pre-law as a major, which is big, and will be a factor in my decision," said Daniels. With the start of the high school season just around the corner it might be difficult for Daniels to make it to Cincinnati for an unofficial visit until December or January. Stay tuned to BearcatLair for all of your Cincinnati recruiting needs.
