ECU might not be the biggest win we have had in the Jones era, but it was one of the more impressive. The Pirates gained the momentum several times, and we always answered right back and never seemed flustered. If you were at the game, you would think ECU was about to take over several times. They hit a couple 3's in the second half and had a 3 point lead after we squandered a 14 point advantage. That was maybe the biggest positive of this game, was how we composed ourselves. Yes we did get baited into some technicals/flagrants that were definitely instigated by the Pirates and I think could be argued we didnt deserve those. Ed got one for hanging too long on the rim, so it wasnt as bad as the box score indicated.
The first thing I noticed and what excited me the most was I realized what an odd assortment of talent we have on this team. We have the superstar in Ed Polite, Butts who was somewhat a big time recruit (top 150) who is now a 22 year old freshman for us, Holland and Fields who each won multiple state titles and were both state players of the year in High school, Tanner is the all time leading scorer in VHSL history, and it really goes on. I like that the coaching staff has taken risks on lower recruited, in state guys, and it has paid off. Remember we were Javonte Green's only offer, yet he was also a state title winner and state POY. Just a few thoughts
