Our signees have had very productive seasons and winning post seasons. I had a chance to watch Devonnte Holland for Martinsville play against Greensville Co. for the state title Saturday. Martinsville cruised to a win and it was evident that Holland was the best player on the court. He put up big point and rebounding numbers, though I cant tell you the final tally. He is a scrappy player and has some moves down low. He looks college ready right how and I think will help us out next year in a position of need. Out of the three title games I saw, he was definitely the best big man. Hopewell had a sophomore with a lot of promise, that I wish we could get a look at, but Holland was pretty good. Carlik Jones scored 57 pts with 8 rebounds and 8 assists in a playoff game recently. That is unreal and would have broken records in the state of Va if it was in the state tournament. (Yaya Anderson has the record here with 47? I think) Jones is from Ohio and is getting many accolades in his area. Looks to have some potential for sure. Donald Hicks led Oscar Smith to a runner up finish I believe, and was the main scorer on that team. A good scorer and shooter that has played good competition is always exciting. Has not committed to Radford, and not sure of his status, but on verbalcommits, we are the only D-1 offer for IC Norcom PG Travis Fields who had a hell of a game to win the 3A state title over Hopewell in OT. Had 30 points and a steal and game winner at the buzzer. He is a little small, but I would rather gave talent over size, and he has it. Here is a video of the game winner, it was an exciting game. Maybe a future Highlander virginiapreps.n.rivals.com/news/watch-fields-championship-buzzer-beater

Great post. Thanks for the review on Devonnte, excited to get these kids in red. the future is looking bright. Looks like Travis Fields chose to walk on at ODU unfortunately. Good for Mike Jones to have him on his radar, though, before anyone else did. I have to think the priority for filling the two remaining schollies this year is for two JUCO bigs. If we can manage to get those we'll be in good shape for next year and beyond.

Is that the plan? To look the JUCO route for some bigs? Would be something to get excited about for sure. I think we need another PG going into next season. Cousin and Cooper are the only really ball handling guards we have coming back and Cousin is more of a 2. Carlik Jones may be the guy to have a big freshman season. We should be ok next year, very young, and may take a step back, but still a respectable team in the league. Or who knows we might win it, we have so many unknowns itll be hard to say till we see these guys hit the floor. We do know Polite is good, and everybody we have coming back has showed promise.

That is the one nugget of insider information that I learned by going to a few games this year. They had coach Jirsa scouring the JUCOs for bigs, to the extent that he missed the first month of practices. Makes perfect sense for balancing the classes and addressing needs.

I agree, we need a little depth there.

Heard that Radford was interested in Miles Weber. He is a 2016 6'0 PG from La Jolla Country Day and IMG Academy. Reported to be a player with a smooth jumper, good handle, high hoops IQ and is a good passer and lock up defender. Heard he was a standout player at some of the Pangos camps and played well with Earl Watson Elite. That is all I have on him at this point.
