Coach Samuels will have his hands full vs UAB head coach Mike Davis, who is just a few years removed from coaching the Indiana Hoosiers in the national championship game (Hoosiers eventually lost to the Maryland Terps).
UAB was selected to finish 3rd in the C-USA and on my website (http://www.featurepresentationonline.com) I have UAB going to the NCAA tournament. They start a 6'6 forward/guard and a pair of 6'8 forwards.
Players to watch Wen Mukubu Senior | Guard/Forward 6-6 Looks like the stud of the team. Selected preseason first-team all-conference by The Sporting News, is the leading returning scorer from a year ago (9.2 ppg).
Paul Delaney Junior | Guard 6-2 Played in 31 games last season contributing 8.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 spg. Had fine performances in the C-USA tourney.
Prediction I was shocked to see UAB came out and lost last by double digits so you can expect them to come out fired up. On the other hand, overall I was pleased with the effort Radford showed. The Highlanders allowed 9 unanswered points to end the 1st half of last night's game. While they kept it close at times in the 2nd, UWM pulled away. Nevertheless, decent start for the Highs who didn't have an exhibition game to tune-up.
It's going to be tough to predict today's game. UAB will sure be fired up after losing yesterday in coach Davis's debut, it depends on if the Highlanders can match their intensity. If the Highs can play with same level of energy and cut back on turnovers, RU can come out Saturday as winners.
UAB 77 Radford 73
