What a game against Wake Forest!!! Just finished with RU down 4-2 in the top of the ninth and we come up with three runs to take the lead. Bottom of the ninth and men on 2ND and 3RD with NO ONE OUT and we pull it off 5-4!!!!! I was on the Wake Forest web site where they have a live blog going and enjoyed some good back and forth banter. Make me PROUD!! They were great sports, I might add.

Listened to the game on the internet, wished I know about the live blogging. But as RUathletics said, this was a great win. Our pitching might be the best we've had in the history of the program, solid depth with the 1-2-3 starters, and excellent mid-relief pitching and good closers if we need it.

I'm not sure if any of you have followed RU Baseball very closely this year, but it's shaping up to be -- once again -- a pretty good year for the team, and for Coach Raccuia, who has proven he can produce a consistent winner. On a side note, I made the trip from my home here in Ohio to Radford last Friday for the opening night of the New Stadium. Got to see two innings of baseball before thunder and lightning make us all run for the hills -- and two tornadoes touched down about 15 miles south of Radford's campus in Pulaski County. Had to get back to Ohio so I missed Radford taking 2 of 3 from VMI later that weekend. Well, today, the swept Wintrop and are standing either in 2nd or 3rd place in the Big South. And Coastal is beatable this year -- UNC Asheville -- a mediocre baseball program at best -- won their series with Coastal earlier in the season, taking 2 of 3 games. Should be an exciting finish to the season. Here is some RU-TV about the baseball team's sweep of Winthrop, and some major team and program milestones that were achieved this weekend ===> www.radfordathletics.com/news/2011/4/17/BB_0417112832.aspx?path=baseball

www.roanoke.com/sports/college/wb/283785Ties run deep between the Radford and Virginia baseball teams Two of Radford's assistants have UVa ties, and the head coaches are buddies. By Doug Doughty doug.doughty@roanoke.co m 981-3129 Virginia hadn't played its first baseball game of the season with Radford and already coach Brian O'Connor was thinking about a return trip to Radford to help christen the Highlanders' newly renovated stadium. That will become a reality with today's first pitch at 6 p.m. "I don't know what I was thinking," said O'Connor of the Cavaliers' first game at Radford since 2003. Actually, O'Connor knew exactly what he was thinking. O'Connor and Radford coach Joe Raccuia are good buddies dating back to Raccuia's days at George Washington, and now two of Radford's assistants have UVa ties. One aide, Kyle Werman, played for the Cavaliers. Another, Brian Anderson, coached for O'Connor. "I didn't have to twist his arm," Raccuia said. "I said, 'C'mon, you're my friend. Do it for me.' " O'Connor said he was only kidding back in March. "I don't know that we'll play at Radford every year," O'Connor said. "but I don't think this will be the only time we play there." O'Connor has played the Highlanders on a fairly regular basis in Charlottesville and the two teams met two years ago at Salem Memorial Stadium. Radford won 29 games last year, its high in Raccuia's first three seasons, and is 21-14 this season. That includes victories over a pair of ACC opponents, Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. "It was a 2-0 ballgame when we played them up here," O'Connor said. "We know what kind of challenge is ahead of us. They swept Winthrop over the weekend and Winthrop is usually one of the top teams in that conference." The Cavaliers (36-3) are atop virtually all of the Division I baseball polls but they were No. 1 last year before they were surprised on the road by another in-state opponent and Big South member, VMI. "I know that a lot of people would throw their No. 1 starter against the No. 1 team in the country, but our emphasis has to be on our weekend conference games," said Raccuia, who is likely to throw either Cassidy McDaniel (1-2) or Derrick Brewer (0-3). McDaniel pitched into the fifth in Charlottesville without giving up a run. O'Connor will go with Cody Winiarski (4-2). Winiarski was a weekend starter for most of two seasons before switching places with Will Roberts (9-0) last week. "They don't have any average arms," Raccuia said.

As much as I've been pumping up RU Baseball, I've gotta say how disappointed in their recent play. They go down to Coastal, a team that is not the team it was before and in their 3 game series get pounded 33-0!!! Yes, 33-0!! Not even a run scored! I'd love to hear what Joe has to say about this. I know it's gotta be eating him alive, because he expects and deserves so much more than this. 33-0 is inexcusable!!!
First the Caps break my heart and now this!!!!

RU: First off, the Caps? I think Ovie is cursed As for the baseball team, CCU has a 37 inning streak going with the 3 games against you guys, and the last 10 innings against VMI. I think our pitching is starting to step up. I didn't see any of the games this weekend so I can't comment that much, but some of it has to do with luck as well. I'm sure you guys will get the bats going again this weekend.

Nine errors!! Five of them yesterday!! Talk about regressing...couldn't be worse timing. I'm wondering if it being finals week affected them. Had to.
On another note, bigtime congrats to Mike Anderson's tennis team winning the Big South and once again making the NCAA's. He's quietly building quite the dynasty with our tennis program.
And, speaking of building dynasties, "the Mick" clinched another Big South softball title yesterday.
Way to go both programs, and best of luck!

They are playing very well. I'm excited about the direction the baseball program is heading in. Coach Joe is doing a great job.
