RADFORD, Va. -- For the second consecutive year, Radford University led all Big South institutions by placing 58.3 percent of its student-athletes on the Conference’s Presidential Honor Roll, announced Monday by league commissioner Kyle B. Kallander.
To be named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently completed academic year.
“It is a tremendous honor for our student-athletes and coaches to win this prestigious award for the second straight year,” said Radford Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg. “This is a reflection of the emphasis Radford University places on academic success and we are very proud of this achievement. We look forward to continued success in the classroom and in competition.”
Radford, which was one of five full-time league members to have at least 50-percent of its student-athletes honored, placed a total of 141 student-athletes on the annual list.
“With the cooperation from both the University and Athletic Administration, we have been able to provide our student athletes with a facility for which they have an opportunity to achieve academic success,” said Stephanie Ballien, Assistant A.D. for Student-Athlete Support Services. “We are excited that the student athletes are taking advantage of the resources provided.”
A year ago, 57.9 percent of Radford University's student-athletes were recognized.
Across the league, 1,394 out of 3,043 (45.8 percent) student-athletes were placed on the annual Presidential Honor Roll for the 2009-10 academic year. The 45.8 percent was the highest since 2003 and was the sixth-straight year above the 40 percent threshold.
The school-by-school listing of the Big South’s Presidential Honor Roll is available on the Conference’s Website www.BigSouthSports.com.
