The close losses are getting into coach peele's head.
Note in this article that he's "offended" about the mention Winthrop can't win close games===>http://www.heraldonline.com/2010/03/03/1988345/eagles-douse-flames.html
Also note the caption on the second picture rotating in this article (you may have to click through the first picture to see the one I'm referencing regarding Coach Peele) ===>http://www.heraldonline.com/2010/03/02/1984681/time-to-bring-it.html
My point is that Winthrop is reeling from close losses this year, the latest of which was against Radford. The impact it has could be good or bad going into the semi's Thursday night. I'm hopeful the trend Coach Peele speaks about continues unabated. Go Highlanders!

Also wanted to give some credit to Amir. I know we all bash him for his offensive production, or lack there of. But he is doing a great job handling the ball and not turning it over. Here is a link to Roanoke.com's coverage of the game. And some info on Amir. 9 dimes is nice, especially with only 2 turnovers. www.roanoke.com/sports/college/wb/238509Nobody had to work any harder than Johnson, who staged an epic duel with all-conference guard Warren. Both guys played every minute. Johnson had five points and nine assists with only two of Radford's 15 turnovers. The real job was hawking Warren, who went scoreless in the first half before contributing 10 points on 4-for-19 shooting including 0-for-8 from distance. Charleston Southern went 1-for-14 from deep. I think Amir has been playing great as of late....I was only bitter at missing the front end of a 1 and 1 towards the end of the game.

Guys, Complain if you want, but the technical issue with the audio was at RU tonight. Interference from the new video boards. They haven't gotten the kinks worked out yet. I know that's no consolation to you, but its not the Edge's fault. If they'll refund your money, go for it. Laz was our guest in the post game because Art, Joey, Amir and Blake all had Big South media commitments right after the game. We couldn't wait for them. Gorkem sprained his left ankle and will be evaluated further tomorrow. Stay positive. Klep Love the team...I don't think anyone saw that 2nd half coming. I knew the sound issue was on Radford's end considering crowd noise was coming through loud and clear. This obviously should have been working and shouldn't be an issue a month after installation is complete. I know you aren't (and shouldn't) throw anyone under the bus for not having it done but in my opinion it's inexcusable. So many times during last nights game I was wondering what your guys take was on the previous play. On to Winthrop. Here's to a 40 point blow out!

Klep,
The frustration with the audio isn't just based on this one game, it's based on the entire year's problems that we've incurred. Often times during the season we would have audio and then you would go into a break and the audio is cut off and doesn't come back on for a lengthy period of time. Again, this has been a problem all year, well before the new telescreen.
As for the Highs (and lows), our frustration has been what is well reported: our inability to close out games. We should have blown CSU out, but we let them back in due to poor free throws and untimely turnovers (and often times, bad shot selection).
Personally, I am frustrated because I know we are so much better than that and it seems that we can never put a full game in where we are playing to our potential. We do at times and when we do, we really are very, very good.
I know the guys are doing there best and I am thrilled that we are still in the hunt. I'm just afraid that if we continue to play this way, we won't be playing after tomorrow.
Sorry, but that is my opinion.

basketball can be an impossible sport to figure out sometimes. that's why this game or rather the 2nd half of play in my opinion doesn't now make us any less likely to win it all. csu it simply one of those teams that matches up well against us.

Guys, I understand everyone's frustration, both with the team and the technical issues.
Let me say this about the broadcasts - and I have no affiliation with the Edge other than that they put my voice over the video. This is not ESPN. There isn't a team of technicians that can fix things during a game. There is a small staff producing and running cameras. It used to be that the Edge WAS a video only feed. But those guys bust their butts to give you the best production that they can, often times going above and beyond the call of their "real jobs." And yes, sometimes there are problems. If you don't think its worth the investment, don't buy it. If the audio is important - believe me, Rick and I appreciate that your value our contributions - that's always streaming free on ruhighlanders.com or at the PSK site.
I think this board is great. It's a terrific outlet for all things RU and you all are avid fans. It allows you to celebrate and vent. Believe me, we appreciate your enthusiasm. However, and maybe I'm just old, but I was taught that you don't say anything about anyone that you wouldn't say to their face. On the few occasions when Rick and I get on here, you know who we are. Our words belong to us. But sometimes I think its easy to take your frustrations out on the players because you have anonymity. I'm not saying that you shouldn't post your opinions. I'd just think before you hit the "post reply" key. Ask yourself if you would actually send the message if your name was attached to it. It's just the civil thing to do.
I'm sure this has been said on every board. I've seen flame wars on other Big South sites where the posters look like they're ready to eat their young. I don't think we need to be like that.
We're off to Conway. Hope you all enjoy the outcome of the tournament.

Yeah, WU had a couple of close losses late in the season, but WU has actually done very well in tight, down-to-the-last-minute games this season (depending on how you define close/late games, somewhere around 7-4, even with the losses to RU and HPU in the final week)...you play enough close games, you'll lose a couple, but Peele should be offended if people don't think WU can win close games, because the people who say that haven't been paying attention to what the team has done this season.

As always Klep, I appreciate your comments and inside info about the team. Not sure how many sites out their get members of their schools radio team to post on their site. So I just want you to know that we do appreciate the fact that you take the time to come here and read our sometimes incoherent rambling. I know I am at fault for some of the negativity on this board, but keep in mind that is one of this boards purposes. To discuss the ups and downs of Highlander Athletics. Anyways, enough about that. This team is poised to repeat as Big South Champs and has another tough game against Winthrop on Thursday night. I will be watching the Highlanders compete on National TV for a chance to dance. And thats all I can really ask for. RU! CLAP CLAP!!!! RU! CLAP CLAP!!! RU!! CLAP CLAP!!!! ;D Am I still allowed to complain about the lack of coverage by the Roanoke Times?
