•Coastal Carolina hoops team has Big South's attention
Coastal Carolina hoops team has Big South's attentionRadford received twice as many votes in the Big South preseason poll as Coastal Carolina. Two and a half months later, the Chanticleers have twice as many wins.
With conference play set to resume today after a monthlong layoff, the red-hot Chanticleers (12-2) have joined the reigning-champion Highlanders, the overwhelming preseason favorites, as legitimate contenders in the regular-season race.
Coastal was picked to finish eighth in the 10-team league, but the Chants have clearly exceeded those expectations, raising the bar with the best start in school history.

What to watch | This is a pivotal matchup atop the Big South standings. Coastal is in first place, followed by Radford and High Point at 4-1. The Chanticleers could put some distance between themselves and their challengers with wins tonight and Saturday (High Point). Coastal has won 12 straight games to tie a school record, is 9-0 at home this season and is riding the best start in conference history. Radford has a 33-16 advantage all-time against the Chants, including two wins last season. The Highlanders are 14-10 in Kimbel Arena. Coastal's Joseph Harris can become the second player in league history (Arizona Reid) with 1,000 career points and rebounds with seven boards tonight. He needs 21 rebounds to become the league's all-time leader.
About the Highlanders | Radford's 11-game Big South road winning streak was snapped in Saturday's 83-77 loss at High Point. The Panthers had a 24-9 advantage in bench points in the win. Radford shoots 45 percent from the field, though the Highlanders are not great shooters on 3-pointers (28.9 percent) or free throws (61.9 percent).
