So we have "ties to numerous prospects overseas" then, sweet. I guess that's why we've only made two offers, and one of them we won't get. Man it must be tough for the coaches to balance foreign and domestic offers, figuring out which kids they'll be able to admit from overseas and balancing that with recruiting here, because you don't want to miss out on someone great from here you might be able to get... I hope these foreign prospects aren't too "numerous", we've only got three scholarships to give. I guess the coaches are looking several years down the road as well, and that makes me happy.

Maybe it's just me but I took the comment as referring to our current roster not necessarily future High's.

blog.northstarbball.com/2009/09/24/college-commitment-projections-september-edition-part-5.aspxMatt Miller, SG, 6'0, Mount St. Joseph (MD) Favorite: UMBC 2nd in Line: Radford 3rd in Line: UNC-Wilmington Watch Out for: Holy Cross, Bucknell The shooter from the Old Line state had a good summer and likely left the summer with a handful of more options than what he had when he entered. In-state UMBC has been listed by Miller as a co-favorite along with Radford and UNC-Wilmington. Considering that Miller is an under the radar prospect, one would think that the in-state program would be a likely destination, as is the case a lot. Radford has a good shot at Matt also, and he seems to like the school. UNCW should not be discounted either, although it may be a bit more of a longshot, as the baller might be a better fit a bit of a lower level. Patriot League programs Holy Cross and Bucknell could move up the list due to their academic reputations and the fact that Miller would be a nice player in that league. It is tough to read Miller's recruitment, as has yet to really be sorted out it seems, but UMBC looks to be in good position. hes listed as a SG, but at 6'0, i would think coach g would have him playing the point?

this article says hes now 6'2 weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/recruiting/2009/08/three_gaels_have_div_i_futures.html Three Gaels seniors have Div. I futures
Question: What do Dino Gregory (Maryland), Henry Sims (Georgetown), Chase Adams (Pittsburgh), Louis Birdsong (George Mason), Brian Johnson (Delaware), Dejuan Goodwin (Marist) and Kevin Swecker (Longwood) have in common? Answer: All seven Division I men’s college basketball players graduated from Mount St. Joseph. One year from now, three current Gaels will likely join that illustrious Div. I club. Mount St. Joseph coach Pat Clatchey dealt with the losses last year of five of his top eight players -- due to either injury or transfer -- as the Gaels battled to a 21-13 record. Now Clatchey’s looking forward to a drama-free 2009-10 season with his three senior leaders: point guard Eric Atkins, forward Ryley Beaumont and shooting guard Matt Miller. “We have a pretty good nucleus coming back,” Clatchey said. “We got through last year and we’ll get some guys back this year. Hopefully it can all mesh and gel together.” Atkins, a Notre Dame commitment and the reigning Baltimore Catholic League player of the year, is the known quantity for the Gaels. After his successful summer on the AAU circuit with D.C. Assault, and an appearance at the National Basketball Player’s Association Top 100 camp, Clatchey expects the 6-foot-2, 165-pounder to step up once again. “I just want to see Eric really concentrate on what he’s doing and maybe take it up a notch,” Clatchey said. “He’s had a great career. Last year he had to do so much with the injury situation. He definitely delivered, being BCL Player of the Year. I think he’s just really ready to finish on a strong note to his career.” Beaumont holds offers from Fairfield, Elon, Longwood, Bucknell, Quinnipiac and Loyola, among others. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged nearly 19 points per game last year, according to Clatchey. “He’s just a guy that can shoot and score, and can get to the basket,” Clatchey said. “He’s very good at moving without the ball. He can score in a variety of ways. I think some guys can shoot and score, and he’s capable of doing both.” Miller could be Mount St. Joseph’s x-factor this season. The senior missed last season with a torn ACL. “Sophomore year he was 5-4, 115 pounds,” Clatchey said. “Junior year, he was about 5-7, 145, 150 pounds.” Now Miller has sprouted to 6-2, 180 pounds, and emerged as a legitimate Div. I prospect with offers on the table. “He’s big, strong and good,” Clatchey said. “He’ll make a huge difference for us. We went to a team camp two weeks ago, and he had 16 offensive rebounds and 16 or 17 threes in four games. He’s just a smart, smart player. He doesn’t make mistakes. He sees the open man and makes the open shots.” Clatchey hopes to contend for the MIAA A conference and BCL championships this year, and then send Atkins, Beaumont and Miller off to join the ranks of ex-Gaels playing DI basketball. “We have really good kids,” Clatchey said. “Our kids are quality players and they do the work in the classroom.”

What are the odds we land 1 or 2 of the kids we know we are looking at? I'm betting at least one signee will be someone we have heard nothing about.

so heres a positive to think about.......w/ Arledge committing to george mason, their 2010 class is complete.....VCU only has 1 scholly remaining, so once they hurry up and fill that, thats two of the top mid-major schools in VA we wont have to compete with for recruits.
Other than UVA, VT, MD, and Georgetown, who usually dont recruit the same prospects as us, id have to think RU, ODU, and JMU are the next viable options for recruits wanting to stay in VA/MD/DC.....and I believe we can hold our own in that battle.

good point, i forgot all about them. even though they are in the A10, i never really read about them bringing in great recruits like mason and VCU have the past few years. But by being in the A10 thats a huge leg up on us over the Big South, so who knows.

Anthony Banks to Chattanooga, looks like we didnt even offer. Also Henderson has narrowed his list, removed Maryland, looks like they didnt even officially offer, I heard from a friend hes leaning towards Vandy. www.roanoke.com/sports/highschool/wb/220772 High school notebook: Raiders sport pair of D-I commitsBy Robert Anderson | The Roanoke Times On Monday, the North Cross boys basketball program had one player on its 2009-10 roster who has committed to a Division I program. Now the Raiders have two. One day after Toles Hartman committed to UNC Asheville, 6-foot-6 North Cross senior A.D. Banks announced Tuesday that he will sign with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Banks played two seasons at Patrick Henry before transferring to North Cross after the 2007-08 season had begun, repeating his sophomore year. He averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots last season as a junior for the Raiders, who lost to Word of Life in the quarterfinals of the VIS Division III tournament. Banks was named second-team All-Timesland last season. At Patrick Henry, he made The Roanoke Times Sizzlin' Sophomore team in 2006-07 in a group that included two players now at Division I schools -- Hidden Valley's Ben Boggs (Virginia Tech) and William Fleming's Jamelle Hagins (Delaware). Banks said he chose Chattanooga over offers from Akron, UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina, Appalachian State and South Carolina Upstate. He said he took official visits to UTC and Western Carolina. "I pretty much wanted to go to Chattanooga because of their coaches," Banks said. "I visited Western Carolina because I just wanted to see it. I really liked the coaches at Chattanooga and the town." NCAA rules require all prospective Division I athletes to complete 16 core classes in four years of high school to attain freshman eligibility. Banks, who needed to complete his 16 core classes by the end of the 2008-09 school year, said Tuesday he lacks one course and indicated he will need a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible at Chattanooga in 2010-11. "They're telling me I need an appeal or something," Banks said. Banks also said he is just below the NCAA's minimum standards for grade point average and standardized test scores. "I'm taking the SAT again," he said. "I think I'll make it." Banks, who has a 21-month-old son, Asean, said he dug himself into an academic hole at PH. "There were a lot of things going on that got my mind off school," Banks said. "North Cross has done a lot for me." Knights' Henderson narrows list to fourCave Spring's 6-foot-11 senior center Josh Henderson has trimmed his recruiting list to four schools -- Davidson, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Virginia -- Knights' basketball coach Billy Hicks said Tuesday. Henderson has eliminated Maryland, where his father, David, played from 1976-80. Hicks said Henderson has an official visit scheduled this weekend to Davidson, which reached the East Region final in 2007-08. Henderson already has taken official visits to Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. Davidson coach Bob McKillop and Vandy coach Kevin Stallings already have made home visits to Henderson, who led Cave Spring to the VHSL Group AA Division 3 championship in March.
