CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford junior center Artsiom Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) and UNC Asheville sophomore forward John Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) have been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Presbyterian guard Chase Holmes (Spartanburg, S.C.) has been named the New Balance Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Parakhouski averaged 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and an impressive 85.0 percent from the field (17-of-20) in two wins last week that clinched the Big South regular-season championship for the Highlanders. He opened his week with 29 points and eight rebounds in Radford’s road win at Charleston Southern. He scored 20 points in the second half and finished 9-of-11 from the floor and 11-of-16 from the free throw line. Parakhouski backed that effort with his 14th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a victory at VMI. He was 8-of-9 from the field and also assisted on three baskets.
Williams averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.0 blocked shots and 76.0 percent from the field (19-of-25) in two wins last week that clinched the final home seed in the Advance Auto Parts Men’s Basketball Championship for the Bulldogs. He scored a career-high 32 points against High Point, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked five shots against the Panthers while going 11-of-14 from the field and 10-of-14 from the line. On Saturday vs. Coastal Carolina, Williams tallied 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and blocked a career-best seven shots in the victory.
Holmes averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games for the Blue Hose. He poured in a career-high 24 points and grabbed six rebounds in Presbyterian’s win over VMI, while going 10-of-17 from the field. Against Charleston Southern, Holmes tallied 15 points and six rebounds in a narrow loss to the Buccaneers. For the week, Holmes was 16-of-29 from the field ( =.552 percent), 7-of-10 from the charity stripe ( =.700) and averaged 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
