RADFORD, Va. – Radford senior forward Chris Oliver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) has been selected as a preseason Mid-Major All-American by CollegeInsider.com.
Oliver averaged a double-double last year, scoring 17.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. His 10.0 rebounds per game led the Big South and he grabbed a career high 15 rebounds four different times last season. He set a career high with 33 against Dartmouth and has eclipsed 20 points nine times. Oliver also tallied 10 double-doubles and has seven other games where he was one point or rebound away from a double-double.
“Chris is an exceptional young man and student-athlete,” RU coach Byron Samuels said. “He embodies all of the qualities we build our program on, academically and athletically. As a player, he’s a tremendous talent and this should be a fun season for him.”
A Second Team All-Conference selection, he was named Big South Player of the Week three times last season and he broke the 1,000-point barrier and 500 rebound mark in 2005-06. In addition to leading the league in rebounding, the junior ranked sixth in scoring, sixth in field goal percentage, 12th in free throw percentage, ninth in steals and fourth in blocks.
Liberty’s Larry Blair and Winthrop’s Torrell Martin were the other two Big South Players to be named Preseason Mid-Major All-American by CollegeInsider.com.
Radford opens the 2006-07 season Fri, Nov. 10 at Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 8:30 pm ET.
