First off to those of you who dont know the Wash. Post publishes the DC areas (to include the entire states of VA and MD) top 11 teams every week. Here is a link to this weeks top 11. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/05/AR2009010503017.htmlThey have VMI at number 5, and Liberty at 7. I can understand VMI. They beat us pretty good at home. But get Liberty out of there. Here are the comments I left to whoever compiles this list. Who makes this list? First you have at least two mistakes. 1. Mistake number 1. You place Liberty at number 7 when they just lost to IN STATE rival Radford BY 12!!!!!! Radford is in sole posession of Second place in the Big South and deserves to be the top 11. Your second mistake is that next to Liberty you wrote, and I quote "Yes, I have three Big South teams in my top 10. Yes, I've been drinking. Mind your own business." VMI and Liberty are in the Big South, Last time I checked, VT was in the ACC, G-Town was in the Big East, VCU was in the CAA, Mason was in the CAA, Maryland was in the ACC, American was in the Patriot League, Navy was in the Patriot League, UVA was in the ACC (UVA is terrible this year, get them out) and Morgan State was in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference. So, by my count, thats two, NOT 3 teams in the Big South. Next Week, please try to do better. Thanks!

The problem is we lost to a couple of the teams on the list....untill we hit conference play we were not playing to our full potential. See the losses at William & Mary, at Mason, and at Navy. If we have a second half like the first in conference play we will make the list.

I know, I just wanted to give them a hard time. Really wish we had won the Navy, and UVA games. Two games we should have won in my book.
OH well, as long as we take care of business in the Big South it won't matter.

HA! I just read it, you were pretty fired up. Hate to let games like that slip through your fingers.
Just hope they have learned from those early season loses and can put together a great end to this season.
BEAT GW!

FYI I just emailed my comments to Dan Steinberg, the writer who compiles the list. I will let you know if he responds.

They have VMI at number 5, and Liberty at 7. I can understand VMI. They beat us pretty good at home. But get Liberty out of there. Here are the comments I left to whoever compiles this list. Maybe LU is in there because they: beat #5 VMI by 9 @ VMI in Reg. beat#4 GMU by 3 @ LU in 1OT beat #10 UVa by 4 @ UVa in Reg. Also, LU had a win against W&M, a team that RU lost to. Based on that, I'm sure Steinberg feels comfortable with LU @ #7. I just think that it is good to see 3 Big South teams under consideration for or in the poll.

I agree VMI and Liberty have a more impresive resumes than RU. I am just trying to get RU some pub. Thats all. Plus we did beat them by 12 at their place.

I'll take the win at the Vines Center and 2nd place in the conference.

Haha, I'm actually one of the voters in the poll and you can bet I vote for RU. I work closely with some of the Post sports guys and I've shared my two cents. The more we win, the more exposure we get. Trust me.

So, Mr. Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post took the time to reply to my email. Pretty nice guy, this is what he had to say.
Hey, thanks for writing. The poll is a composite of about 70 voters, whose only qualification is volunteering to be responsible voters. Last week we had 79 voters, one of our highest marks of the year. I know many people voted for Radford, but Liberty probably has a more eye-catching win, which is probably why they remained ahead. As I noted in my own introduction, that one is certainly questionable.
The comments that come after each team are provided by voters. And they're supposed to be amusing. The one you quote below was written by Matt Bonesteel, which is why his name was in parentheses after the line. And on his ballot, he did indeed include three Big South teams, which is exactly what he said. We might be dumb, but we all watch enough college hoops that we know who's in what league.

Dan's a good dude, loves his college hoops ... we've worked on a number of projects together.
Like I said just keep playing the way we have been, we'll get some love (from everyone). Take this from Field of Dreams, "if you win, they will come".
