Radford Team Report

Getting Inside
A Radford-Virginia Tech rivalry in basketball seems all too natural.
The schools are located about 15 minutes apart in southwest Virginia. And Radford coach Brad Greenberg has some personal connections to the head coach in Blacksburg … considering that coach, Seth Greenberg, is Brad’s younger brother.
But Brad Greenberg told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that a game between the two teams is unlikely in the near future.
Brad was on Seth’s staff at Virginia Tech for four years before taking over at Radford, so he knows the ins and outs of the Hokies program, how his younger brother prepares for games and what kind of offensive and defensive tendencies Virginia Tech presents.
It’s all too familiar for either coach to want to set up a game.
“We really enjoy being able to toss back and forth ideas about our teams, brainstorm with each other,” Brad told the Times-Dispatch. “Now that we’re not seeing each other every single day, the brother-brother relationship has kind of been enhanced. If we threw an upcoming contest into the equation, it would make us both miserable.”
Notes, Quotes
• The Jan. 17 win at High Point moved Radford to the .500 mark for the first time since Nov. 25, when it was 2-2.
• All six of Radford’s Big South wins have come by double-digit margins.
• Radford’s 29-point win over Charleston Southern on Jan. 10 was its largest margin of victory in a league game since it beat Coastal Carolina 104-75 in the 1999-2000 season.
Quote To Note: “Fairfield is definitely much bigger. Way more bleachers.”—G Kenny Thomas, in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, in comparing the gym at his old middle school to the gym at Radford’s Peters Hall. The Highlanders played in the 575-seat gym for the first half of the season while the Dedmon Center was renovated. Radford returns to its home floor Jan. 21 for a game with VMI.
Strategy And Personnel
F Eric Hall had scored 11 points off the bench in three straight games entering the Jan. 21 game against VMI.
Player Rotation: Usual starters—F Phillip Martin, F/C Joey Lynch-Flohr, C Artsiom Parakhouski, G Amir Johnson, G Kenny Thomas. Key subs—G Chris McEachin, G/F Jamar Jenkins, F Eric Hall.
In Focus: The Highlanders and Flames are two of the Big South’s hottest teams, and a huge crowd is expected when these traditional Big South rivals meet in Lynchburg on Jan. 24. Can Liberty’s five-guard lineup do anything to slow Radford’s frontcourt combo of Artsiom Parakhouski and Joey Lynch-Flohr?
Roster Report:
• G Kenny Thomas became the 23rd player in Radford history to hit the 1,000-point mark Jan. 17 at High Point.
• F Eric Hall ranks ninth on Radford’s all-time blocks list with 77, three behind Duane Ricks. Tyrone Travis holds the all-time mark with 215.
• G Chris McEachin, who missed the first semester while straightening his grades out, had scored in double figures in three of his last four games through Jan. 20.
