Butts went from a starter at the beginning of the year to hardly playing by the end. I think the writing was on the wall. Greene is going to Virginia State. I think the writing is on the wall as well. This may be a rebuilding year, but we’ll have something to work with. Going to be a lot of new faces, and still some to find on the recruiting trail. I thought that Butts may have been the highest regarded recruit we’d ever landed. There are articles he was initially recruited and offered by power 5 schools, but something halted that. I think he eventually landed at Coastal Carolina but never played a game. I think he was 22 or 23 yrs old when he came to Radford, and we got 3 seasons out of him(?). Showed flashes of solid play. But in the end, something happened. I trust Coach. And wish Leroy well wherever he ends up. I’m glad he was a highlander even though he won’t finish with us.

He was at Rhode Island for a time as well. And he may have been the highest rated recruit. I remember thinking the same thing when he commtted. I didnt see P5 potential there, but he was a solid player with some size. Everybody cant be great. He did help us win a BS Title. I wish him well also, and hope the scholarship turns into a good player. Edit: The P5 offers were Cincinnati, DePaul and Rutgers. I think Ed may have been similarly recruited. And signee Porter had a Texas A&M offer, that may be one of the bigger offers one of our guys has got as well.

I also dont think these transfers are a sign of anything other than trimming the fat. Carlik of course, being a different story, and he didnt leave on any kind of bad terms. Take a few lumps and be back in the hunt for a title when we get some experience.

Hopefully Porter is ready for a big freshman year!
