All right guys....I'll try and do as many as I can this season, but here's the write up for the Davis & Elkins Game:
Game 1:
Radford vs. Davis & Elkins
Davis & Elkins Facts:
Enrollment: 846
Mascot: Senators
History: Named After Henry G. Davis & Stephen B. Elkins – West VA Senators
Notable Alumni:
Tobi Stoner: Former New York Mets Pitcher
Red Corzine: New York Giants
Senators Scouting Report:
League: NCAA D2
Conference: Great Mid West Athletic Conference
2017-2018 Record: 7-19 overall
Conference Play Record: 5-15 in conference play
Road Record: 2-11 on the road
Notable Player:
Jordan McElveen – 6’4 - Senior
Averaged 13 points per game last season. Shot 41% from the field.
Last Time Out:
Davis & Elkins:
Failing to qualify for the post season, the Senators ended a disappointing season by losing in a route from start to finish to Ohio Dominican by a score of 80-62. Trevor English led the way with the Senators with 17 points and 3 rebounds and will look to carry the momentum of his performance into tonight’s matchup with the Highlanders.
Radford:
The Highlanders are coming off a historic season having set a program high with 23 wins and captured the Big South Tournament Title with a buzzer beater win over Liberty. Radford went on to win the their first ever NCAA Tournament game with a win in the first four over Long Island Brooklyn before falling in Pittsburgh to the eventual National Champion, the Villanova Wildcasts. The Highlanders walked off the court to a standing ovation and their sites set towards repeating as champions in 2019.
Common Opponents from last season:
Davis & Elkins lost to West VA State in the regular season by a score of 109-87.
Radford played West VA State in and Exhibition game last season. A game that Radford won 106-81. Ed Polite Jr. scored 15 points and 9 rebounds in a route to an easy win Caleb Tanner (14), Carlik Jones (12), Devonte Holland (11) were also amongst 6 players who averaged in double digits in that game.
Prediction:
Expect for RU to continue their dominance of the Gret Mid West Athletic Conference and cruise to an easy victory over the Senators. This will be a game where All-Big South Conference stars Ed Polite Jr. and Carlik Jones will put on an offensive and defensive clinic.
With the departure of senior Randy Phillips, look for Coach Jones to look at this as a tune up game for Devonte Holland to get ready for his new role as starting center. Before their first big test of the season comes to town with a prime time matchup vs. the UIC Flames.
Final Score: Radford wins 87-56
