So we drop several sports so we can focus our resources to the remaining programs. Let's see how we are doing? One man's opinion...ready for feedback!!
FALL SPORTS Overall Conf Grade Notes
Volleyball: 24-8 12-2 A- Lose Big South Championship. Most improved program.
W Soccer: 7-10-2 4-5-1 C- Down year from one of our top programs. Should bounce back.
W XC: B 3rd in BS. Consistently sound program.
M Soccer: 12-5-3 8-1 A- Win reg season; lose conf. championship. Disappointing end to a very successful season. Program in good shape.
M XC: B 4th in BS. Good program historically.
WINTER
W Bktball: 17-13 14-6 C Tied for 2nd in BS; lost in 1st round of tourney. WNIT bid. Horrible conference for hoops sans Liberty. Lost at home to bad D-2 program. Record inflated due to poor opponents.
Like coach; good recruiter; look for improvement in once proud program.
M Bktball: 21-11 12-6 B Lost in 1st round of BS. Disappointment with senior laden team. Like coach, like recruiting, looking for better results down the road.
FALL/SPRING (in progress)
W Golf: D At or near bottom of most tourneys
M Golf: B Consistently in the top third in tourneys
W Track/Field B Coach of the Year...3rd in Conf. Championships
SPRING (in progress)
Softball: 4-11 D- Once top program is now near rock bottom. Should never have let Dean go. Hope we can get this turned back around.
WTennis: 1-7 0-3 F Just bad...consistently bad. Hopefully Sayer family can do for RU Women's Tennis what they have done for Men's...RU Royalty
MTennis: 2-4 0-1 C Record not indicative of play. Very difficult schedule. Fallen from glory years of several seasons ago. Hope to recapture the swagger.
Baseball: 6-8 C- Very disappointing early on. Losing to teams we shouldn't lose to. Weather not helping. Contending team needs to find itself before tough conference schedule.
I think this covers it. Spring sports off to very slow start after very disappointing Winter in terms of meeting expectations.
Well, it could be worse...right Sweet Briar? (My distraught wife's alma mater). They have not given up on the Vixens! I digress...
