Future Highlanders highlights from home opener. / Nice highlights. Both recruits looked smooth. I had never seen Morton-Robertson, and his jumpshot is textbook. Miles Jones shows athleticism, his dunk impressive.

I’ve played pick up with him before when he was even younger and we had guys that played D1 ball there and even at 15-16 he held his own against guys who have played high major ball. I know someone who spoke with a player and they had told my friend QMR had played pick up with the team and they would try to speed him and it didn’t work. He is small and will have to add some weight but I honestly feel like people are gonna be surprised by him before he leaves RU. Jones waited to offer him because if he did then he was affraid Q might end up getting a lot more offers. I’m just glad the kid got the offer from RU. Very exciting times for RU now and in the future

No question that a guy this size can make a huge impact at the D1 level. Look at the guy that was at Winthrop for the last seems like forever years. He could play and killed us over and over. He is not the only one for sure. The Big South is the perfect place for a guy like that and glad he is with the good guys.

The Roanoke Times said the following about Miles Jones the other night: “Senior big man Miles Jones finished with 15 points for Radford, which included three emphatic dunks in the third quarter, where the Radford University commit said the Bobcats picked up their intensity.“ This reminds me of a young Ed Polite, Jr., regarding at a minimum his athleticism. And he’s bigger. He’ll need to bulk up and hopefully he has (or will have) Polite’s ball handling and basketball IQ, but Miles’ potential bodes well that coach jones’’ unique team formula that has proven successful will continue into the future Wonder what you guys think? Here’s the entire article: www.roanoke.com/sports/high_schools/h-s-boys-basketball-unbeaten-radford-pulls-away-after-halftime/article_2bb21da1-351a-5c5e-989a-6801683c3856.html

Ed Polite is a special player, I don't think we'll ever see the likes of him again, unless we enjoy a long run of sustained success that leads to better recruiting. He is the greatest Highlander of all time. That being said, I don't doubt Miles will also be one of the best players we have ever had, given his upside. We may see a better team in the next couple of years than any that Ed Polite has been privileged to be a part of, due to the quality team building that Mike Jones has embarked upon.
I would be concerned with almost any other coach if he were to sign his own son to play for us, but I think Mike Jones may be uniquely able to handle this without creating resentment among the other players.
I wonder if Caleb Tanner went to see this game against Floyd County, his Alma Mater. I imagine he would have, because he has also been playing pickup with Miles and Quinton for years.
The Jones' have now had eight consecutive years of their sons on the team at Radford High. Rick Cormany must be loving that coach took the Radford job just when his kids were the right age to play for him. That being said, he was doing an amazing job before, and is a Radford alum for both Bachelor's and Master's degrees and a former assistant coach! He developed Darius Nichols into a High major prospect too.
