Probably best sport overall. I really hated to read this earlier this morning. Loved the intensity of Coach Dean. Huge loss for the softball program and RU.

I've got to disagree. We have a budget for sports at RU and money needs to be spent wisely. I would have love to have kept him but I've not watched one second of Women's Softball. I hope that one of the assistants is ready to assume the role or a good candidate is identified quickly.
If it meant cutting Coach Jones' recruiting budget, would you still want him to stay?

I just find it galling whenever we lose a coach to another mid-major. I'm much more comfortable when a successful, great coach gets an offer from a power-conference school and decides to jump ship. There's less of an excuse for a coach leaving when the destination isn't as much of a step-up.

Good point, although JMU is throwing a lot of money at their athletic programs the past couple of years.

Congrats to Coach Dean and JMU for a 41 - 15 record in his first season and will be playing in the Knoxville regional against NC State Friday while RU finished 4th in the Big South and went 0-2 in the BSCT. I can honestly say I attended many games each season under Dean and I went to 1 game this year. I hate he's gone. Still a huge loss for RU

Softball season starts tomorrow with two games Saturday and one on Sunday. I watch on stream whenever it is available, but we are a far cry from when we had the Dean of Softball running the program. We should never have let him go. It doesn't take Fort Knox to keep a top coach for a non revenue sport. Look at where we were and where we are now (or at least last year)...Let's hope we can get the tradition back this season. Some interesting info...before Dean came to JMU, they were a little over a .500 team. Dean's two years at the helm of JMU: 2013- 42-17 2014- 45-15
Dean's last two years at RU: 2012- 34-21 2011- 38-21
RU Softball post Dean era: 2013- 20-36 2014- 22-30
It's overwhelming. Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes.
