This one still stings. Maybe writing about it will provide some therapy ha. Lou Holtz once said after a 1 pt loss that if his kicker can't make an extra point then they don't deserve to win. That's how I'm feeling today about our squad and the woeful ft shooting. If we can't hit the freebies then we'll have to create more turnovers, hit more shots, turn it over less, etc. or rightfully lose the close one's. Point is there's plenty of other ways good teams overcome.
Overall I thought we played some of our best ball of the year. Take away the first 5 mins, some key turnovers(Laz) and the obvious ft misses. If we can improve even slightly which we should w/ PMartin back, there's no reason to think we shouldn't be able to take care of business in the bsc.

Whatever.
This does more than sting. At the beginning of the season we thought we had all the pieces in place for the first time since the late 90s. We have a very special player on his last year with us and we can't make anything happen. Going back to the NCAA was supposed to be a given, and not only that but we were given the chance to not be lopped in a 16 seed. Now that hope is all but gone.
Before the season at a RU gathering in NoVA there we even talks about Radford doing what GMU did a few years ago. Now I think of that conversation in embarassment.
Don't forget that our 2-0 record in the Big South was against the bottom feeders and we BARELY won both. The only dominant presence we showed was against... Roanoke? And even that squad scored was to many points against us.
We don't have a football team and rely so heavily on basketball to make our name in the sports world. And then we are lucky to beat Presy? >.<
It saddens me greatly.

I would have LOVED to win that game and frankly I think we should have but we still have a chance to make a splash outside of our conference. We have to beat JMU, I think we can be GMU, and I'm confident we will give Lville all they can handle on Sunday. As for the conference we won two ROAD games...the effort was not our best @ Presby but EVERY team has off nights and we still won. Winthrop is on a downward spiral and has a overall losing record since Marshall left but they are still a top tier of the conference team (right now I would have them 3rd behind us and Coastal) so that IS a quality conference win. Let this team get healthy and watch them improve!

That did sound a bit gloom reading it back... surely not my intentions before the holiday!
Hopefully the Louisville game will spark that inspiration back into me that I had at the beginning of the season.

What Mason did a few years ago was equivalent to a 100 yr flood. Honestly that conversation was an embarrassment before we even stepped foot on the court this season. We can still get at least a 15 seed (modified: assuming we win bsc tourney. How good is Coastal?). Beat Mason and JMU, dominate the bsc and have a few non #1 seeds win their one bid conference tourneys(happens every yr). The more the better.

Grade time... First off I'll say I don't like that we had only a 7 man rotation....Robinson getting a minute or two in place of Johnson maybe keeps Amir in the game for the last minute....anyway... I see your point but this one was tricky. Amir only had 1 after the 1st half. He had 3 inside of a min left. Picked up #4 w/ :37 left and 5 w/ :24 so I'm sure coach(and everyone else) didn't see that one coming. Now whether Amir should be playing 37mins w/ Robinson getting no pt is another story.
