we need to seriously work on our FT shooting and Turnovers...i think for every free throw you miss in a game you should take 50 in practice..this is ridiculous!

alright, so, a winnable non-conference game, lost. we were just bad. Not the kind of performance you want into conference play. especially against one of the teams thats supposed to contend against you.

Guys....just got home from a 6 hour ride home in Thanksgiving traffic....here are my thoughts on the game.
Duquesne is very athletic which caused us the most problems at the SF spot. Phillip was a turnover/foul machine and Smith wasn't strong enough to defend in the post (everytime he was at the SF they took him down low). Would have loved to see how Laz would have played it but he couldn't play so it doesn't matter.
I don't like losing but it happens. What bothers me is the Dukes out hustled us. Lazy bringing the ball up. Lazy passes. Against a team who essentially played 6 guys. NOT GOOD.
Our bigs were getting double and triple teamed not to mention weren't getting any help from stripes....Coach botched leaving Joey AND Phil w/ 4 fouls in the game..... Time to grade:
STARTERS
A. Johnson GRADE 5 - 9 assists but I remember only 2. Another poor shooting night and a couple bad turnovers. After early foul trouble played the entire second half. WE NEED HIM TO SHOOT BETTER...most of his shots were clean looks... P. Martin Grade 1 - This rivals his game @ Navy last year. I'm really struggling to remember a solid play that he made. I mean he had some crisp inbounds passes....to the other team....OPEN looks from 3 missed. Did I mention his money passes....if only assists were given to points for the opposing team. J. Lynch-Flohr Grade 3 - Great job clearing out to get the ball down low and then continually botched open looks or made it harder than it needed to be. He wasn't getting any calls from the refs but you gotta rise above. Way too many turnovers. A. Parakhouski Grade 8 - Rebounded and scored. Made his 3 point shot. A couple bone head plays including when Curry came into the game and he's setting picks at the top of the key....He was supposed to be down low as they were running a play for him....MAKE FREE THROWS. B. Smith Grade 4 - Started off poorly w/ some bad turnovers. Seemed off. Made a couple 3's but also had some clean looks.....not his best effort.
BENCH
J. Curry Grade 4- I hope he had 3 Thanksgiving meals.....played hard........needs to put on some serious mass.....really could use that red shirt....make that I hope he had 4 Thanksgiivngs.... E. Faulkner Grade 5 - Thought he had a solid game other than.....you guessed it....needs to make his shots. Made several strong defensive plays.....Should have got some minutes at point in the 2nd half IMO. J. Robinson GRade 4 - Still waiting for him to put together a complete game. Thought he played well minus missing all 3 free throw attempts....

Damn, I completely forgot RU played last night. From what I read on here it might have been a good thing. If we hope to get higher than a 16 seed we have to win games like this one. Lets hope we improve from the charity stripe so we can beat up on Winthrop Thursday.

Yeah that would've been a nice win for the Highs, anytime you can beat a A-10 team it's a good one. I think with Laz we win the game, but as some of you have alluded to, we're making too many turnovers and missing too many free throws. Yeah it's early in the season, but the Dukes shot terrible behind the arc and we didn't help matters by missing key opportunities given to us.
Huge one Thursday night we really need to start 1-0 in Big South play. Especially against our rival Winthrop.
