College basketball: Radford stings Hornets[/size]

RADFORD -- It would have been a good college basketball game for Radford University coach Brad Greenberg to empty his bench. Unfortunately for Lynchburg College, the Highlanders didn't have much of a bench.
With only eight players dressed, big boys Joey Lynch-Flohr and Art Parakhouski took turns hammering the NCAA Division III visitors inside and the Highlanders won 94-70 in a dress rehearsal for their trip to No. 8 Duke Saturday.
Greenberg declined to call Tuesday night's dismantling of the ODAC team a tune-up for the Duke game.
"Duke's a different animal and Cameron Indoor Stadium is a different kind of place," he said.
Greenberg was still hobbling, his right foot in a walking boot after breaking it walking his dog last week. The stress-free nature of the game allowed more occasions to take a seat than the season-opening victory over Navy last Friday.
In this one, the only reason for the coach to be on his bad foot was to applaud another Parakhouski dunk or Lynch-Flohr rebound. With no Lynchburg player taller than 6-foot-6, the 6-11 Parakhouski and the 6-8 Lynch-Flohr partied inside with abandon. Parakhouski had game highs of 31 points and 17 rebounds and Lynch-Flohr 21 points and 12 rebounds.
"We try to work as hard as we can, me and Joey, to lead our young guys by what we're doing on the court," Parakhouski said.
Lynchburg (1-1) shot 50 percent in the second half and forced 18 Radford turnovers, but there was no getting over a 46-27 deficit on the backboards and a 58-18 mismatch in points in the paint.
Hornets coach Hilliary Scott, the former Roanoke College sharpshooter, was asked if he had any advice for Coach Page Moir and the Maroons when they visit here Dec. 13.
"Try to play six players and hope the officials don't notice it's five on six," he said.
Lynchburg did a nice job of pressuring the ball as Radford started a pair of freshmen, Evan Faulkner and Blake Smith, for the second game in a row. Amir Johnson, the incumbent point guard, sat out his second game. Greenberg, who said that Johnson would play at Duke, elaborated on the reasons for his absence.
"Amir was irresponsible in something he was required to do. I thought he should have realized it was important to take care of business and that there would be some kind of consequence."
Radford had five players score in double figures and all eight who played made the scorebook. Phillip Martin had 13 points and seven rebounds before taking the rest of the night off after re-injuring a sore finger. Greenberg said he'd play against Duke. Jeremy Robinson, the junior college transfer point guard, had 10 points and five assists, going 8-for-8 (Radford was 24 of 30) from the free throw line. Smith had 10 points and four assists.
Lynchburg used 17 players. Senior Steven Echols, the Carlisle School product who had 25 points, eight steals and five assists in a season-opening victory over Ferrum, finished with four points. K.C. Mendez led the Hornets with 14 points.
