That foul call at the end of regulation was definitely in our favor. But you have to be able to outplay the refs. I know we can all remember how we got screwed on a few calls at Dedmon.
It's an awesome win, and it's going to put some wind in our sails after Wednesday, but the foul shooting needs to be addressed now. Last game it was terrible, this game, it should have cost us.
But, the way we handled ourselves was amazing, we didn't get too flustered, though we the opps we had to win it in regulation, we need to see one of those three shots go down, that's something we've always lacked.
But really, 7-2 through the first half of conference season, 10-10, one win means we're better than the last two seasons, AND two more wins and we've got our best conference record since before 2003 (lazy to research that). But I know we were 9-7 when we got that home spot Whit's senior year.
Great win, because we did control overtime, it will be very interesting to see how we play on the road next week at GWU, I think we're a very different team from our first meeting with them.

Congrats on the victory. You guys did exactly what you had to do to win. It is not your fault the refs handled the game the way they did.
We'll be gunning to return the favor in Dedmon.

The Day After... K got a couple minutes to write up about the win before I go out and celebrate/enjoy saturday night ...
Backcourt Stats that stand out: 47 points, 13 assists, 20 rebounds, 11 turnovers, 8-20 FT The Good: Kind of hard to limit the Flames guards damage, when they start five guards. Seth Curry got his, Anthony Smith shot 50% from beyond the arc and somehow Kyle Ohman ended up with a quiet 18 points. Offensively we weren't too bad. Hit some big shots from the field down the stretch. Love seeing KT's 12 boards. The Bad: Curry is not his brother, but he's not that bad of a clone. He found ways to get open when he shouldn't have ... it would've been nice to have slow him down a bit. The worst out of tonight was the free throw shooting of our guards. That should be the first thing they work on. Defense and free throws win championships. I'd also like to see less than 11 turnovers. The Skinny: McWorld continues to step up and deliver in the hybrid guard/forward slot. He has been the key to our recent run and I'm standing by that statement. He can beat you from the outside, drive to the hoop and even get second chance points by battling with the bigs. Keep up the solid effort. AJ11 and KT are still a lot of fun to watch together. Two games in a row with a lot of turnovers and terrible free throw shooting, we need to improve on that.
Frontcourt Stats that stand out: 47 points, 35 rebounds, 7 blocks, 10 fouls The Good: The guards had a lot of boards, but round of applause for our frontcourt too - 35 rebounds from four players is amazing. Seven blocks is key (Big Art w/ 6) and only 10 fouls from our big guys is solid. Big Art only had one, awesome work. Big Art needs to shoot at least 15 times a game. Joey's Flohr had a nice job netting 13 while playing with 3 fouls for most of the contest. P-Mart did a nice job serving as a scoring threat and again was hustling all over the court. E-Hall six boards, he's a monster. The Bad: Some of their small, quick guards were getting second chance opportunities at times, but I guess you really can't complain when we ended up out-rebounding them 57-42. First half we were dominating them inside, second half it took a while before we could start going down low again. The Skinny: The team goes as do our twin towers. You could tell Big Art really wanted to win this game and be a factor from the get-go. Played with a lot of intensity. Just keep battling.
Refs Pretty inconsistent on both ends (Greenberg didn't call a timeout when Big Art made that bucket), but not much they can do when the lights go out and the clock keeps messing up.
Coaching Nice bounce back win for Greenberg and Company, but we need to work on our free throw shooting. I am the biggest fan of the 1-3-1 zone defense, but sometimes when another team is heating up from long distance, it may be wise to switch up the d. I would like to see McWorld or E-Hall maybe run the top of the point on the 1-3-1 defense. That allows our guards extend to the baseline to cover the 3. It also presents a problem at the top of the key. Gary Williams used to run something similar when he had 6'7 Terrence Morris at the top. All in all, pretty good job, w/ winning on the road and using timeouts when Liberty would make a run. We had a game plan and we stuck to it. Very nice job coaching staff.
Atmosphere Always tough to win at Liberty, but this was a big win. The crowd was loud, the fans know their hoops, it's a nice arena. It's a shame the lighting/clocks messed up so much though. Liberty is a very solid team, they'll be a top four seed when it's all said and done. When they catch on fire they are very tough to beat. I've always enjoyed my time at the Vines Center. Big win to win there ON TV (w/ the gorgeous Samathan Steele) in such a huge game.
Looking Ahead I said before the VMI game if we go 3-2 in our next five games we're in good shape. Right now we're 1-1, big win tonight. We get a well-deserved week off to work on our game at the Dedmon Center before heading off to Gardner-Webb in another big game. They spanked us at our place, but as danceru09 said, we're a better team now. Let's take some time to enjoy this win, rest/heal up, and get ready for another big road victory.

I also want to point out that we are 4-0 on the road this year.
4-0.
That was our first win @ LU in 5 years, Winthrop, it's been at least 5 years, Asheville, at least 5 years, our road with @ HPU stopped a 3 year streak. This is huge.
Coming up, we have GWU on the road, Winthrop, Asheville, CSU and VMI. Throw out VMI, and we're looking at a very impressive road record this year. Though VMI is possible now that we may be able to adjust.
I'd say 12 or 13 conference wins is very possible, and it feels good to say that.

you both pretty much summed the night up, great points. this was another great win that we normally would have blown. we tried to give it away by missing free throws though haha.
also, shout out to our strength and conditioning coach because our squad surprisingly didnt look exhausted at all. amir and art played 50 minutes, kt played 49, and jlf played 45
kenny thomas 21 pts,12 reb,7 ast....he was 3 assists away from a triple double, big art- 22 pts, 16 reb, 6 blk...he was 4 blocks away from a triple double.

loool, you should read their board too, www.flamefans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11658 they are STILL talking about that game. some of them refuse to take any ownership in the loss and blame it soley on the officiating. there are a few level headed folks over there though.
