Game is three days away. Thoughts on the match-up? Anyone making a trip up to Fairfax?
GMU is sitting at 6-2; we have home wins over Ohio, Brown and Mount Saint Mary's. Traditionally, GMU is tough to beat at home; I do recall, was it two years ago, that you guys gave us a battle?
Our two defeats were on the road to Liberty and Hampton. That Curry kid is pretty good. John Vaughan leads the team with 11.5 ppg; Darrly Monroe is our top rebounder.

Beat me to it Masonhoopsfan. Looking forward to the game on Friday. If anyone from Radford is coming up - there are some good places to hang out before the game where you can meet eachother and Mason fans as well. Brion's Grill is really good and across the street from the Patriot Center. Bernies deli is also nice and so is BWU.
Looking forward to the game and watching some college hoops before Christmas.

Probably easy to get tickets for this game too. Students are off on break so we'll probably have a medium to below medium crowd?
You know, I think you're the first person from the boards that has said something positive about BWU. I love the place but it seems that everyone is "that place is a dumb and their food sucks."

yup it was 2 years ago at dedmon that we played you guys close.
This year, I think it will be tough for us to pull this game out....we've had injuries, transfers, and academic trouble this semester so i think we are still playing w/ a 7 man roster right now (not including our freshman walk-on who doesnt play). It would be a big win for us though if we did make it happen.
are you guys more of a half court team, or a fastbreak squad?

Our freshmen and sophomores are getting a lot of playing time now - our roster supports heavier post play and that has caused an issue with some of our seniors who like to pull up the three instead of taking advantage of what we have gained in size. Liberty exposed some of our weaknesses to that regard. It should be an interesting game. If Radford can play a good zone defense - we could lose this one because that has caused us some problems this year. If any of you all can make it up - please do - it should be a good time to watch some hoops.

Radford's problems have been all over the place this year...turnovers were a huge problem early in the year, guard depth has been hurt due to unjury and academic suspension, bigs getting in foul trouble, and running into guys shooting lights out. Radford is at their best when they can play inside out freeing up our shooters (Kenny Thomas and Amir Johnson).
All that being said and not knowing much about Mason's squad this year other than by reputation I think Mason wins by double digits. I should be going to the game but since Radford hasn't put a quality product on the floor I'm going to watch it on TV.

While injuries are plaguing you - you seem to play a decent zone - and that is our achilles heel. I think this game is closer than you think. If you have solid shooters that can bring it up - you can cause problems. Invitation is still open.

Welcome GMU fans.
Honestly we're the typical Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde team. We've been in all of our games and there are two or three that we should have won (most notably - @ UVA, vs. JMU).
Our post game is very good, ranks as one of the better frontcourt tandems in all of mid major land. If they stay out of foul trouble. I really like our veteran guards, when they are playing d and taking good care of the ball.
If I can get off work (Comcast SportsNet in Bethesda) in time I'll hopefully be there. The point differential shouldn't be over 7 and I think it'll go either way.

We go through Jekyll and Hyde streaks as well. The running argument on our boards is the first player on the Patriot Squad that shoots a 3-point shot loses a testicle. From our scouting reviews we have heard the most about Artsiom Parakhouski, Amir Johnson, and Martell McDuffy - are there any other players we are likely to see playing this Friday? Please do make it up to the game - as I mentioned in my earlier post - its the last bit of college hoops action before Christmas. Even though we root for our team - we do like to mix with fans from other universities.

Yeah pika I'm a huge college hoops fan, I try and take one or two mason games in a year (and watch them on our network and masn). I'm also a "bracketologist" per say and right now have VCU projected to get into the tourney, but Mason isn't too far behind. ( www.featurepresentationonline.com ) I've always been a huge Dre Smith fan (the 10-for-10 3pt vs. JMU) and I must say this is a big year for Louis Birdsong. Hopefully I can make it out. Staying away from Brion's Grille though, not a big fan haha.

Keep an eye out for Joey Lynch-Flohr a Fairfax native who was picked 1st team big south. His numbers haven't been stellar so for this year mostly due to being in foul trouble in at least half of Radford's game. He's physical, has a great offensive touch, and will out hustle anyone in the paint.

Another problem with me making it to the game is that I'm moving into a townhome I just bought on Saturday so I've got a lot of packing to do for the move.

Given what you all have provided - this could be a fun game to watch since it seems like we will match up with similar approaches to the game. OK I am in a good mood now - something to look forward to with the kids! As I said - a large part of time will be our freshmen and sophomores. The one strong shooting guard is Cornelius and Cam Long. A pleasant surprise for us has been Pearson is has proven fairly fast in the paint. We haven't seen a lot of one Sophomore - Vald Moldevanau who is 6-11 and can shoot great jumpers and threes because of injury. If you all can put up a solid zone defense - this game will be close because that tends to disrupt our seniors the most. Safe journeys everyone.

Good news for RU, I'm hearing McEachin will be able to play this Friday night. He's going to help us out with guard depth and he showed flashes last year of being a pretty decent ballplayer. Hopefully he gives us that extra body off the bench that can really work into the rotation and help out.
