Hello everyone and Doug, Josh here...
I was at the game live, here are a few thoughts about the team.
1. Defense is pretty awesome. A couple lapses here and there, but the intensity has really picked up as compared to the Samuels years. I kind of wish Greenberg was our coach while I was a student there. E-Hall was a freakin monster, I counted 3 blocks at least... without looking at the box score.
2. Artisom is pretty good. He started off very slowly, missing a few shots and turning the ball over twice early, but rebounded to put together a decent second half, hitting some big shots.
3. Free throws. They were great against our D-2 guys, but a couple of the guys seemed rattled by the crowd noise. Free throws to me were the difference in the game
4. The plays at the end. Letting the freshman drive the lane for a layup... meh. I wanted to see Art get the ball down low. Ticky tack fouls cost us Amir (a better driver) and Joey (a better post player) a couple of the foul calls were truly.. what in the hell is going on. Kenny's shot bounced off the rim, but it was double teamed.
5. Overall, we played pretty well, I think importantly, we were able to control the tempo, and really play our game, and that type of defense and game really will win a lot of games in the Big South, a few little things will get worked out with more gametime on the floor.
And Phillip Martin... is a defensive wizard... he's not a stats guy, but taking charges and just nearly messing up almost every pass hes in the game for is big.

I also really questioned not having art in the game... especially when Joey fouled out.
Greenberg said in post game Ehall was having a good game, which he was.. but Arts a game changer in that situation, UVA's post play is really weak

Amir Johnson 2 assists 4 turnovers and stupid fouls that cost us our starting point guard down the stretch on what was other wise a good game of managing the team and he hit a crucial 3 in the second half.
Big Art shot less than 50% from the line. He dominated down low and could have sealed the game from the line.
Bleek, a freshman, made freshman mistakes. Listening to the radio broadcast they immediatly said his drive to the buckets WITHOUT EVEN SETTING THE OFFENSE was an obvious mistake. Also, he missed both of his free throws which was a HUGE dagger at the time.
JLF took himself out of this game. I don't think he had one good defensive foul. At least two came on the offensive end of the floor while he was trying to get postition.
The defensive effort most notebly by KT, Martin, Hall, and Big Art changing shots was pretty impressive. We are going to win a lot of games if we play this well on the defensive end of the floor.
Overall I'm very proud of the effort but I want this team to WIN the close ones.....not just being happy with it being a close game.
