Important game today! Another one where we are a slight favorite and need to take care of business before another tough stretch. Presbyterian has been on the losing end of a lot of one possession games though so, they are better than their record.

Yeah, this has become a must win game on the schedule. hopefully the team is prepared. Maybe we turn it around and peak late in the season and make a good run!

Wow, first impression is that Presby is far, far better than their record. The starting 5 pass the eye test in a big way, and it looks like they have depth too. Good game from our guys early though, Let's go RU!!!!!

Good game from our guys early though, Let's go RU!!!!! Our Highlanders’ offense much crisper today. Let’s keep it up. So far, fun game to watch. I’d like to see a blowout. Probably not happening in conference play

Yeah, Presby is no joke and they’ve been in every game this season. So, they may just have a habit of playing to their competition. But so far, every time we’ve made a quick 7-0 run, they’ve answered it.

Nice assist by Shaq in the waning minutes of the first half.

Yeah, that assist and 3 pointer was one of the best plays of the season! We’ve made a lot of 3s today. We’re starting to see a little of the Coach Nichols offensive vision come to life

Wow, I knew the three pointers were going to start to fall for us eventually this season! Great time to make it a consistent thing down the stretch!

Jeffers has been very good today! He’s at 15 now. Needs to get to 24 for a career high. He might just do it the way he’s shooting!

Ughh this is disappointing…..We had this game well in hand with 12 minutes to go. It feels like there were multiple times where we opened up a lead and just couldn’t hold it. Not over yet….as I write this with 54 seconds remaining. But boy we dug a hole for ourselves

Interesting game, we have potential, but again we collapsed. I still have faith. Which team do you think is the best at this point in the season?: Samuels 2006-2007 (ended 8-22); Greenberg 2010-2012 (1-24*, several forfeited losses after NCAA sanctions), or this years team? We can do it but so far this season feels like a Samuel’s or Greenberg season. It doesn’t feel like Mike Jones’ first season (6 wins if I remember correctly) - that season felt differently than this, But I don’t know why.

oh man what happened? We had friends show up for dinner and we were ahead, and I stopped watching for a second, and then I checked again and we were down by 10!

Just a total collapse in the last 8 minutes. Really bad scoring dry spell. We made a run in the last minute. But by that time the damage was done and it was too late…….
Comparing against some of the other terrible seasons you just mentioned, I’d say this mirrors Mike Jones year 1 in a lot of ways. The difference is Mike Jones was entering into a dark cloud of NCAA sanctions from the Greenberg era.
But what’s similar about both situations, is the massive amount of transfers, the transition year of learning a new offense. And arguably in both years, both coaches faced incredibly tough schedules. This year due to the financial fall out from Covid, we took a lot of guarantee games to get big payouts from other schools. It put Nichols in a tough spot.
Player wise, I think we are in a slightly better spot than the Jones era year 1. Although he struck gold with Javonte Green and that’s extremely hard to get that lucky late in recruiting. But since we’re already at 6 wins, I’d say we’ll end the year somewhere between Mike Jones year 1 and Mike Jones year 2. Which by that mark, we’d be ahead where we need to be at the end of this year. Next year, we’ll get a full group of Darrius Nichols recruits on board and we can start to see his plan take shape. By year 3, hopefully, we see results and we are ideally eclipsing 20 wins again.
